Mounting advice for ar noob.

Hey everyone,
Recently bought a s&w m&p 15. Original owner has a magpul moe handguard on it. I picked up an eotech 513 and g33 mag for a great deal and I'd like to mount them. My question is this:
Which handguard with top rail would fit this need? Free floating or non?any help or advice in General is appreciated.

you want your optics mounted to your receiver, Not your handgaurd.
That should answer your question.

So there's no way to really mount iron sights as backups as well then since the receiver isn't long enough to fit all?

Congrats on choosing a great combo! My EoTech 512 and G33 are a little too big to fit just atop my upper, so yes, my 512 bridges onto the rail atop my handguard. I previously had a Yankee Hill Machine Diamond FF Quad Rail, but just changed it out for a lighter Midwest SSK Keymod Rail. Both allow mounting on a picatinny rail that perfectly matched the rail atop my Palmetto State Armory Upper. Both are free-floating, but that won't make a difference for what you're asking... The free-float has to do with the barrel not touching the handguard anywhere other than the barrel nut.

you need to mount both optics on the same segment of rail, not span them both, preferably you want to hang optics on the upper receiver rail.

most Iron sights aren't renown for their accurate shooting at longer ranges such as optics are, Thus the miniscule movement in the handguard isn't noticeable.
A .0001" flex in your handgaurd can result in a .36" drift.
(100yards = 3600" 3600"*.0001"=.36")
How much do you figure a handgaurd will flex with 6-12lbs of rifle+accessories+optics+your head supported between the handgaurd and buttstock?
They make the barrel free floating for this exact reason. To eliminate this .0001+ flex which will cause a POI shift

For the front you can do one of two things , change you gas block to one with a folding front sight or just get a standard A2 FSB put on .
