Hi I am looking into getting an SKS but I know for certain that I want some kind of optics on it. I have got some help/ideas already from a similar thread I posted in the mil surplus forum but they also said it wasn't a good idea to talk about potentially "Bubba"ing a collectors item so I am posting here with a slightly different question. From what I have read it seem that the rear sight, gas tube and receiver mounts all can't hold a zero well without using screws that damage the gun's collectability. So my question is what would you recommend as a mount? I have found this thing which I can't seem to find any reviews for: http://www.fabsports.ca/MOUNT/sks/MNT-HG568SA.html
I am also interested in recommendations for the scope its self, as I understand the SKS wasn't exactly built to be a sniper.
Please keep in mind that I am VERY new to guns in general, in fact I am still in the process of getting my PAL.
Thanks in advance.

I bought an sks and scoped it with a Bushnell Banner on the rear and hated it. The scope sat wayyyy to far back. I would defiantly recommend the "scout" scope method which it looks like you have already decided on.The receiver mount was a hassle to install and I was worried that every time I cleaned the gun that I would lose zero. I haven't heard anything about what your looking at but I almost bought the same thing and probably should have. Aside from what you have found there are some others. You can find on fab sports a rail mount that replaces your gas chamber: http://fabsports.ca/MOUNT/sks/MSKS.jpg
Another mount is: http://www.marstar.ca/ac-optics/mounts-semi.shtm
Scroll down most of the page and you should find something that looks like this....

I have heard great things about this mount. It mounts right where your front sight is located. As far as scopes go, depending on what you want to spend, I recently put a scope on a cz 858. It is a tasco standard red dot I got for $50 at Canadian Tire Ive taken it up twice and so far it has preformed very well. Ncstar products are crap and Aimpoints are very very expensive. Im not too sure what your looking for in a scope but I hope this helps.
