Hey guys,

Whats the best way to mount a bipod on a 20" AR15 that just has regular handguards (no rail).

Do they have bayonet lug sling swivel adapters? Should I just buy a bayonet lug mounted bipod?

Is it even a good idea to mount a bipod on the end of the barrel?

Thanks

I don't have a pic but my AR15 has a little piece of metal that has a threaded hole. That goes inside the handguard and a simply QD swivel threads in through the hold in the handguard. I've used it lots with a mid length at the range and on prairie dog shoots down south. Never a problem. I bought it from Epps years ago.

Update: Google Harris #5 BiPod Adapter for AR15

Mounting a bipod to anything other than a FF handguard is a bad idea. If you're after accuracy/consistency then you'll need to FF the barrel.

I think I will save up for a nice FF guard... maybe one with a slig swivel built in.

How much work is it to remove front tower and install a FF guard?

The work is simple as long as you have the right tools and the knowledge. The potential to seriously f@@k up your rifle is quite high. I would have a pro do it.

I just looked up the process and doesn't seem too complicated.

I am pretty mechanically inclined... only thing I don't really want to do is invest all the money into the tools for a one time use.

What's the biggest risk here? Just applying torque improperly and bending your barrel or gas tube?

As already mentioned, not ideal to mount bipod on non FF hand guard , but will still often better than offhand

Way more convenient than goofing around with blocks of wood and sandbags at the range

Go to any range before hunting season and watch the guys that sandbag their hunting rifles with no FF stocks vs guys that are trying to sight in off hand

You should invest in a bipod that has picatinny adapter since you may eventually buy FF hand guard

IF you do that, then best solution to mount is the MI MCTAR03

At least you can use your bipod before you invest in FF handguard ( $250- $400+ )

You are better off shooting prone off the magazine than resting a non free floated hand guard on anything.

Resting the barrel of a rifle on anything will affect the point of impact.

Far to many people give up learning how to shoot the AR and run off looking for crutches that seem to help but really band aid and hide existing problems that still exist.
