Advice needed.
After shooting that Service Rifle Match this weekend and doing prone on the snaps and rapids at 300 and 500 yards, I feel I need to make some adjustments to my humble rifle to make it work better for these relays.
When in this position I am only allowed to rest one part of the rifle on the ground. In this case, I am resting on a 20 round mag. The height was enough to make contact on my shoulder, but not enough. I need to prop it up with pads to find the magic spot. Probably solved I thought, to my solution was added another problem. It seemed during the rapid, I was pulling the mag tight toward myself to anticipate the monster 308 recoil, the bullet failed to feed from the mag twice. I lost time and lost the shot after 30 secs. This is a problem.
Unlike the C7, the pull of the left hand is on metal that surrounds the mag and not the mag itself. I need to solve if I want to improve on reliability and time. The solution I think that might work, this why I am casting to question to the knowledgeable mind of CGNer, is putting a forward grip to rest on the ground instead of my mag. A harris bipod would have been cool but it's against the rules. Remember, one part only allowed to touch.
Does this make sense? Where can I get a rail set to screw under the fore end? Advice?
