So guys, I need an opinion on a good mounting system for the Remington 700 which will later be converted to AX AICS chassis.

The first scope im going to grab will be http://www.opticsplanet.com/tasco-6-24x42-targetvarmint.html

The Second will be : http://bushnell.com/tactical/rifle-scopes/elite-tactical/hdmr-3-5-21x-50mm-horus-trmr2

Heres what im looking at for the base. the 1" extended with recoil lug: http://www.lebaron.ca/pdf_files_fall12/burris_weaver_zeiss.pdf

Primarily I'm sticking to my guns on the QD mounting, I'd love to be able to interchange the optics and swap between different platforms as well as remove them during transportation. So whats a good QD base? Are there QD bases with 20 MOA built in? Or will I have to change my base out to get that 20 MOA?

Does anyone have experience with multiple ring types/brands? Any good advise there? Since the stock is fixed right now and will be adjustable cheek height later I'd rather mount as close as possible to the barrel. Which rings will get me that close including the base height?

Thanks again everyone, let's continue building the knowledge base on these 700 builds that are becoming more popular by the minute.

Why bother with the Tasco? Just buy the Bushnell and put the money into some ammo and a good rail and rings.

Lots of options for good quality rings: Burris, TPS, Nightforce, Farrell, NEAR, Badger Ordnance, etc.

For rails try NightForce, although lots of guys are happy with EGW

Would like to keep the topic on a straight line here... But for those who must know;

a) Won't be able to afford the Bushnell for a while with other monetary commitments
b) Wont be able to source one for a while there on backorder everywhere
c) Wouldn't mind spending 100$ for a backup optic that's going to come with free rifle bags anyway.
d) Will be able to use the tasco as a secondary optic on other platforms.
e) Want to shoot my Rem the weekend I get it... Who wouldn't, sue me. lol

The point of me buying the tasco IS putting money into good rails rings and ammo. If i bought the bushnell right now id have to move in with you for a couple months.

i can understand the whole trying to get shooting for cheap. I had a tasco on a .22-250 and it wouldnt hold its zero at all. You dont have to buy the bushnell right away, but i'd stay away from the tasco. JMO. it was a nice looking scope tho.

If your going to run the forward picitany rails on the ax then make sure what ever mount you get will clear the bell on both scopes of the top front rail.

so much for keeping on topic...

kimmer, no I'm not joking its a well reviewed, cheap, effective optic. For something I can have as a backup later or run on my .22 597 its a good buy. again, sue me. For the few that gave it a bad review(things broke), I'd say they should take advantage of tasco's lifetime warranty.

rode, I've decided on that optic as the final one for the build because its rocking the TRMR2 and its got everything else I want out of an optic after lots of research and all that said and done it remains the most cost effective. Bushnell says 2grand but other websites after a quick browse come up more commonly around 1500, which is what ill be looking to spend, when I'm ready.

Jay, thanks for the tip, that's why I posted. I'm looking to figure out what rail / mount combo will do exactly that. After further searching this morning and discovering a new section posted using the banner on wolverine's site AI makes a 20 MOA full length rail for the AX chassis. hereI guess the next thing im going to have to figure out is weather I can mount that AX rail without the AX Chassis until I get it. If not I might have to settle for something like this

After another look at the links posted the AX rail looks like its just for the front hand guard. I think this is the correct piece that lines up with that front rail making it all look like a one piece. http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/171/Accuracy-International-AX-AICS-Short-Action-Action-Rail-20-MOA.aspx

There is no way to reliably swap a scope from rifle to rifle without having to make adjustments to the scope and zero. Stick with one style of base (Ken Farrell, Near TPS take your pick) and a good set of rings like the Leupold QRW's and that's as good as it is going to get, but you will need to change the scope settings. The cheaper the scope, the less repeatable those adjustments will be too,

Consider sticking with one gun/scope platform and investing in different barrels. Switch barrel rigs can be made so the action doesn't even come out of the stock.

I loathe removing a scope for any reason.
