Moving the scope forward?

I just got a Remington 700 SPS Varmint with a set of Bushnell rings that are bolted directly to the action. The question is, can i just simply undo the caps on the rings, move the scope forward and just button it up; or is there a torque sequence that i need to follow so that I don't warp the mounting surfaces on the rings..?

should be able to. just don't tighten 1 screw then move on to the next. snug up all four then go back to each one and tighten carefully. If you tighten just one at a time, you'll surely warp or dent the scope tube.
