I live in BC and have a resident hunter card. My question is:
If I move to Alberta do I have to retake the CORE course, or is my hunter number transferable to another province?

you just fill out a form and give them your hunter number, then they give you a WIN number, and mark your account as hunter ready.. You have to do it at the actual conservation office not at the waly mart.

or so I believe.

cheers.

Welcome!

Bring money!

I came to AB., in 2000, and do not recall having to do anything special to get a license here. Things may have changed.

A WIN card is $8, IIRC, and is required to get a fishing license as well.

You can now buy your tags and licenses online, as well as enter the game draws.

I got a WIN card to do some duck shooting last year outside of Calgary. I believe we got ours at either Wholesale Sports or Russells', I forget which.

..... but I know for sure we didn't have to go to the Conservation office.

When I came to Alberta in 2001 I wasn't asked for any proof of hunter safety course, though I did do it 25 years earlier in Ontario.

When you fill out the WIN application, you will just need to check off the "have passed hunter ed course or held hunting license in another jurisdiction" or something to that effect. I have never heard of anyone actually being checked before.

Just be aware that even though no proof is required, you are required to sign a legal document saying you are eligible to hunt in Alberta. This includes either having taken a Hunter's Education course or having previously held a licence in another jurisdiction so you should be fine on both accounts but a few too many people think that just because no proof is required that you can lie when obtaining a WIN Card. You are signing a legal document so make sure you understand it and qualify or you could be charged down the road.
