I received a work contract that will take me out to the GTA (near Markham) for approximately a year. I shoot 3-gun and IPSC, occasionally IDPA. Can anyone recommend a club in that area? I don't know anyone out there.

Thanks

You're going to find it very difficult to get into any club near the GTA. Most have waiting lists and are currently not accepting new members. The closest one to you would be Sharon Gun Club.

That being said, if you really need a fix, Target Sports in Gormley does offer walk in shooting for anyone with or without a license. It's very expensive though, and I'm not sure if they will still let you bring your own firearm or will require you to rent theirs. Hope this helps.

Try Aurora Gun club. Not a bad drive from Markham. They do IPSC but the membership process takes a while to get through. Drop the club exec an email and explain your situation, they might be willing to work something out.

Ugh, I keep hearing this. Thanks for the info, perhaps my dry firing skills will really take off this winter!

Damn. When does your contract start? Still going to make the team match in October?

I don't need to move out there fulltime till the end of November. Don't worry Stevo, until then my partner and I are running endless shooting drills and taking various shooting-performance enhancing drugs. It's like a montage from Rocky down here :)

My condolences for moving to Ontario.

Thanks Robert! This is another thing I keep hearing. It'll be tough to spend some time away from lovely Wetaskiwin (that's sarcasm).

Thank you, I'll reach out to them. To the googles!...

LOL, awesome.

You still need a team name, IIRC.

Target Sports has an IPSC league and I still believe offers great value for $$$

If you bring your firearms, you can of course, use your own ammo. As will all of the commercial ranges that loan firearms; if you use our guns, you use our ammo. BUt besides that, use your own.

If you can't find any ranges close to Markham accepting new members, try Silverdale. It is maybe 1 to 1.5 hrs away, but always accepting new members. It does not have an indoor range for the winter months however.

Ajax has an excellent club that offers lots of real interesting IDPA shoots. (3 gun, lights out, etc.) I shoot there regularly as guest. I am not a member. I think guest fee is $5.00

I will send you the email of the organizer.

Somehow no one pointed out that you don't need to be a club member to participate into sanctioned events, such as IPSC matches and we have those pretty much every weekend in one of the clubs around GTA. Though you'd have to be a current member of your section in order to participate... and you'd have to get an ATT to transport your firearms to those clubs.

The Markmen Club of Oshawa runs IPSC practice nights on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. Not far from Markham. You can attend the practice nights as a guest. PM me for more details if you'd like!

Might want to check out the Galt Sportsmens Club. We run 3gun practices one Saturday a month and host a few multi-gun matches. As well, we have ODPL practice every Tuesday night with a few matches throughout the year.

Thanks everyone! I've reached out to a few clubs. Yes, it looks like membership might be tough but dropping into IPSC/IDPA practices as a guest will be no problem. Now I have to get my ATT/registration sorted out, and decide whether to take my reloading rig out there or just build several thousand rounds beforehand and pack them in the truck.
