Gents,
It's this time of year again for us military guys and posting messages are coming out. Mine came in and turns out this promotion comes with a cost, we're posted to Saskatchewan from Quebec.

I got a few question for you Saskatchewanians.

Do any of you know how it works for new commers. Do I need to do a hunting safety course or can I get my license by providing my Quebec one?

From what I understood, (First Saskatchewan Resident $32.38Antlerless (Saskatchewan Residents only) - $19.62 ) you're allowed a first whitetail buck tag and can purchase a second antlerless tag afterward?...

Where can I find season dates and bag limits?

Trying to figure out how it works over there since it seems to be different from how the MNR works here...

Thanks for the help!

You will need a sask health card to purchase the tags as a sask resident
One deer tag normally for either doe or buck

this years dates havent been released yet, thats if we are having a deer season this year.
big game season draw is begining of may(thats if you are eligable)

Not sure about the safety course

You will need to set up a Hal account on the sask environment gov website
So you can buy a tag

all the info/reading is here

Your course from Quebec will work here, just need your sask health card to buy a license. The Hal ID can be set up at most license issuers or the website mentioned above. For seasons and regulations search Saskatchewan Hunting and trapping guide in Google or any search engine, select the most current years page, also come August or so license issuers will have paper copies of the Guide provided for free.

I read in the hunter's and trapper's guide that since I'm a regular Canadian Forces member, if I'm posted to Sask I become a resident (as we do not use provincial health cards we get the Blue Cross).

I guess I'll be missing the resident draws since I'm posted in July and won't be a resident until then. So I can only get one tag for whitetail. What about moose and mule deer, are those draws only?

Thanks

You read that right. CF and RCMP posted here do not have to wait for a Sask Health Card to show resident eligibility for hunting. Show proof of the equivalent hunter education course from another jurisdiction to be exempt from taking the course here.

Yes, July will be too late to enter for this year's draw. Mule deer are draw only or pay for a guided hunt with a licensed outfitter. Antelope are draw only and most years there isn't a season because SERM can't find enough animals to believe the population can stand a hunt (and lots of farmers find too many and shoot them anyway.) Most moose and elk licenses are resident draw only (or guided hunts,) but there are a couple of zones where some elk and moose licenses are sold first come first served to Sask. residents. Black bear and whitetail licenses are for purchase by Sask. residents. Outfitters also sell these hunts, and Canadian residents outside Sask can get whitetail licenses by a draw.

I have seen much smaller deer numbers in the past three years than in the previous ten,but of course there must be some areas that aren't that bad.. I wouldn't recommend deer hunting here for outsiders, but the currently low Canadian dollar wil probably bring more Americans to the outfitters anyway.
