Its been confirmed today that I will be moving from MB to ON in mid-July. I have a fair bit of ammo in my basement and I am wondering if the moving companies will move dangerous goods?

I don't want to sell my stash, and honestly I want to keep adding to it. I can't fit it all in my car either.

So when you move, what do you do with the ammo? Or is this a non issue?

Cheers

Thanks for the input, guys. I am going to be away when we move, and I wanted to know if Mrs. Rimfiredude was going to have issues with the ammo.

Cheers

I have a 7' x 16' tandem axle trailer and 3/4 ton truck and will come out to MB and remove all of your dangerous ammunition free of charge! :dancingbanana: You can help me out by chipping in for my gas if you like.....

I like the attitude!

When I moved 6 years ago the moving company would not move ammo, primers or powder, I very much doubt that it has become any better. I had to move it myself, luckily I had a vehicle that could carry the weight. I would check with the moving company before adding to your ammo stash.

My default settings are:

1) "Buy it Cheap and Stack it Deep" and

2) "It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it"

I would doubt the moving company would knowingly take any ammo, powder etc. It's not an anti gun policy it's part of the restrictions they have to abide by as a licensed carrier. They also won't take perishables etc. etc.

In all the moving that I did while in the Forces from province to province, not one company would move my small arms ammunition (1.4S under the Dangerous Goods Act, consumer qty), Powder (1.3C) or Primers (1.4B). Shipping companies are obliged to ship it IAW the dangerous Goods Act. During one move with about 160 lbs of loose brass, they ask for a "Free From Explosives" certificate, only because they knew I was an Ammunition Technician.

My simple solution was get some range time before the move then put the rest in your car and don't plan on going through the states. For people travelling with ammunition, powder, etc the TDG clear language version has a 500 lb NEQ (Net Explosive Qty) exemption for consumer quantities.

Temporary storage at a TRUSTED friends place until you get back and then rent a cube truck and move it yourself, that way neither you or the Mrs. have any worries about the transport. I'd move all my firearms/ammo/accessories like that, that way nothing can "accidentally" go missing courtesy of the moving company, that would also allow for the moving of any other VERY SPECIAL items...

...no better man to trust for an important job than yourself.

You sign a waiver in all the paper work. No dangerous goods are knowingly being shipped. No gas in a lawn mover.

I was towing a fifth wheel home. It suited our needs to go out and buy a enclosed utility trailer to tow behind.

We paid $1.16 lb to move home. Trailer might not pay for itself, but can be sold when you get to where you are going.

Depends of your financial situation, vehicle you have. Wanna tow that far.............

Its a thought.
