MP Molds

Very good mold. Almost the only choice for hollow point. I got .44 special Wadcutter Hollow base that can be used either way, as a hollow point or as wadcutter. Very accurate. Pins system work very well. My favorite mold.

I ordered a .457 diameter .455 mkII mold and received a .454 diameter mold despite it being engraved correctly. Yes, I ordered it based on the alloy I tested it with. It's still well made and casts good bullets just not exactly what I wanted.

I have several and they are all fantastic. I much prefer the hollow point system compared to the NOE molds

I just loaded up a pile of .40 S&W with the 402-190 and I am getting incredibly good accuracy with HS-6

I ordered a .356, eight cavity, 125g, flat nose, AL mold yesterday. It is designed for powder coating - no groves. Incredibly, it will arrive on Wednesday via UPS. Wow! I expect to get zinged at the door by UPS for customs.. We will see.

Yes it will be like $30 additional you need to pay for customs and handling.

I have 4 MP molds. They are all fantactic. I have the 4 cav 359-125 No lube groove. My alloy they drop at 137 which is nice as i prefer heavier bullets for my 9mm.

I have 10-12 MP molds. They are a good HP/HB system far better than most.

Keep the pins screwed in tighttight or they can break off in the base plug.

Sure enough they want an extra $24.

Genesis of MP moulds was about 25 years ago when you couldn't get custom moulds made in any quantity other than Lee Moulds. You would participate in a group buy and usually wait about 12 months to 18 months to get your mould made. Lee would send a sample of the mould to the head honcho that was in charge of the group buy and about 60% of the time it was wrong by one dimension or another. Then Lee would try again and 2 months later you might get your mould. This was right at the same time Clinton was in office and you couldn't buy reloading supplies because of the shortages (sound familiar).

Mihec was working as a machinist over in Europe and stumbled on the website and the eternal headache at the time with Lee products and there lack of quality control. There were three of us that were designing a bullet to use in a 444 marlin, 44 mag, and also 44 mag in a lever gun. We posted a drawing on the Cast Boolits website and made some changes for a few weeks and just before we started to collect the money from the 50 people that wanted in on the deal, Mihec posted he could make it for the same price and be in our hands in 1 month. To sweeten the pie he said he could make it into a hollow point mould so since it had three crimping groves on the bullet (for which application you are using it in) and a small pin or large pin for the hollow point, it would be an great universal 44 bullet.

We sent the design drawing to him and sure enough the three of us received our moulds in the mail in under a month. They were a thing of beauty , they were exactly as we spec'd and worked flawlessly with the hollow pint system once you found the correct temperature it needed. We tried them for a few days and reported back to the group to drop lee, we have a new supplier that can deliver the goods.

I think Mihec was doing it part time after work and on weekends and then he moved and opened up his own shop and the rest is history.

NOE came on the seen about 5 years after Mihec and offers the same quality of moulds, first rate by all means. Lots of other players in the industry but they didn't do huge quantities at a time.

I received my .356, eight cavity, 125g, flat nose, AL mold. As long as the mold and the lead are heated to an acceptable temperature, the mold works great. It seems to take awhile to get to the correct temperature. A standard batch of wheel weights drops a 127g bullet at .356. Eight cavities lets you crank out bullets fast! The shake and bake method of powder coating (using airsoft balls mixed with the medium) works almost as well as a powder coat machine.

I ran the coated bullets through a .356 Lee sizer.

I loaded a batch using 4.0g of titegroup. The bullets produce great accuracy out to 25m when fired from a Canik Rival. I was getting a three inch group from a rest. The gun/ammo are doubtless capable of producing better results.

Based on chrono testing with similar powder coated rounds, I am guessing the velocity is about 1050-1075fps or so.
