I dunno - it IS a fair chunk of change despite how rare it might be, and it can't be sold to the US, so...

Is it missing part of the mag release/the mag housing? I have not seen one in years. I am not sure if what makes it rare is that it is a 1940 dated MP38, rather than just an MP38 in itself (I have not seen many of those either).

Negative, the hole is supposed to be there. Lightens the gun, along with the flutes in the upper receiver. These were deleted on the MP40. Like most MP38's, this one has the update for the notch for the bolt safety. Originaly, they had NO safety :shock:

An MP38 made in 1940 is not rare in and of itself, but any MP38 has to be considered rare in comparison to an MP40.
