Allright so this might sound kind of dumb but still feed like I need a little more clarification.

I've recently purchased a second Rhineland R22 to convert as an Mp5 look a like and was wondering is that legal ? The Mp5 being prohibited by name as well as its variants if I convert a fully legal rifle here to look like a variant will my rifle be prohibited?

My guess is no due to the new Ak47 kit and the krinker plinker but better be safe then sorry.

Thanks

I have seen the Thompson, G36 and even the pulse rifle from aliens.... but never the MP5 kit. I wounder if that is because GSG make a 22lr MP5 already which is legal in the states thus not creating demand to make one.

Thats kinda what I'm thinking. The only kit i've found is prohib. Its a bullpup mp5. I think a company called kestler made it. Thats too bad, An MP5 is my all time wish list. Too bad for me

In an R22 an MP5 variant without the conversion? Then it won't be after the conversion. A rifle is what it is, not what it may look like.

You have to be careful with that considering how the RCMP have thrown around the "variant" card for lookalike rimfire firearms. Putting a cosmetic kit on a gun won't change its classification, but they have used cosmetics as the only justification to wrongly classify a number of rimfires so far.

Me too. I would sell my firstborn and a kidney for a quality rimfire replica MP-5.

Was in texas a couple weeks ago and got to play with the real deal :)

if you have the time and money, you could try to convert a 10/22 into an airsoft shell... unless that would also be illegal. I dont know... But i have seen it done with a marlin 60 into an airsoft tavor.

I dunno how you are going to do it....as A: no one makes a short barrel for that rifle, and B: you can't shorten it without making the gun prohibited.

And yeah, I know a *bit* about making HK lookalikes out of the RA's 

Where the heck are you guys finding R-22 rifles??? I would give my left nut for one, and you found a second!!! I'm happy for you guys but man I'm envious. I think the R-22 could be a good platform for a rim fire mp5. A little chop or replacement of the fore end and if your up to it an operating lever on the front left side of the for stock would be sweet. Heck cut a notch for the HK slap. You could also look to Specterarms s2 for inspiration. It looks a lot like an mp5 but the R-22 is closer. If you are anyone here wants to part with your dear R-22 just let me know what organ you want. (that does not sound right). Please think twice before you start cutting up a rare R-22.

Moe....two things. Again, the R22 *could* be made to look like an MP5....but the barrel SUCKS (ridiculously heavy and tooooo long for an MP5 build....and there's nothing you can do about it.). Secondly, I've owned 4 of them and only one ran worth a ####.

Imo the r22 is an awesome because of the barrell I personnally like how its front heavy but that me, as per them being unreliable it only take a few cheap mod and my R22 is now WAY better than my 10/22´s

As per my little project I plan on making a new front end for the r22 to look like an mp5 sd therefore I will use the heavy barell look like the silencer of the SD model
