MP5 Gets Replaced
March 8, 2011: India's Border Security Force is replacing 34,500 MP5 9mm machine pistols with the Beretta Mx4 9mm Storm Carbine. The Mx4 is a militarized version of the Cx4, which weighs 2.57 kg (5.75 pounds), unloaded. The Cx4 can use pistol magazines, or its own 20 round magazine. The Cx4 is 75.4cm (29.7 inches) long, with a 42cm (16.6 inch) barrel. There is a rail on the top of the Cx4 for mounting scopes (day or night vision), laser aiming device or flashlight. There is another rail underneath, forward of the trigger, for mounting a grip, laser or flashlight. The MP5s weight about the same, but have a shorter barrel. The Mx4, with a scope, is pretty accurate out to a hundred meters, and automatic fire is accurate out to 200 meters. The Cx4 has a reputation, among the many police and security personnel who use it, of reliability and ease of use and handling.

Regards,
Henry;)

Oh snap. I guess because they suck and they hate them?

Looks nicer with the shorter barrel. Why didn't they get rid of the sporterized stock?

There's no listing on burst fire anywhere. Rate of fire anyone?

between the mp5 and cx4, i wouldnt even think twice before going with the mp5
this is as intriguing as their choice of px4

MP5 has been around for a loooong time. Theirs are probably worn out and brand new ones are probably way more expensive than the beretta. I'm sure it's simply a cost/volume issue.

Maybe they are issuing PX4 pistols to go with them. They share the same magazines. Could be large cost savings there too especially with 34,500 guns needed.

Next month on the Equipment Exchange:

"For sale 34,500 MP5 9mm machine pistols. Price includes shipping from India"

My guess as well.

The other plausible explanation is that somebody got a kickback from Beretta. I can't think of any other reasons why anyone would choose what is essentially a militarized version of a hobby rifle over the MP5, the gold standard of SMGs.

Then again, this is the country whose military uses the INSAS, so maybe it doesn't have to make sense.

.. Most likely a Cost/Benefit Decision. Having carried an MP5, pretty much on a daily basis, over a span of seven years, it's a Very, Very, Hard Act to follow ! ..... David K

I like my Storm, but I don't see it being a replacement for a MP-5. that being said I can shoot accuratly out to 200m with 155gr bullets with it.
