Is the H&K MP7 available to the general civilian market in Canada? I saw one at my local shooting range and I first thought it was one of those TP9's dressed up to look like an MP7 but when I saw the brass it was the 4.6x30. I had always thought that H&K never made civilian variants of its military guns. It would be so cool to have one of these if they were available.

mp7

i think there was only one.. two unless i missed it, it was on the sale board last yr at about 14000 and came with a case of ammo, though i think when you used the ammo up you were pretty much pooched...

There are like... 4 or 5 "semi auto only" variants in civie hands in Canada? (maybe less)

I have seen them go for as high as 13,000 dollars.

There was a potential deal from a movie prop company, that had a bunch of MP7 semi's. They would have been about 2 grand each, but people started asking the company too many questions and they decided to stop the deal....

they are classified as restricted though. But yes they do exist, just way more money than they are worth.

I guess im lucky to see it. I have to pieces of brass as well. It was an impressive little gun but waaaaay out of my price range.

Totally agreed that (1) very cool, (2) very expensive, (3) the ammo issue pushes it into novelty/paperweight teritory for the most part.

A certain regular at my range, who I will refer to as "Mr. Fancy Pants" (I kid, he's a great guy) has one. He seems to almost never bring it out. I think he had it for several months before he shot it for the first time. The reason? You have to find someone somewhere in the world who will sell you some ammo for it (not so easy) .... pay for it (ca ching!! $$$) ... and then import it into Canada yourself.

One firearm in the world that shoots this stuff and... that firearm isn't really available for sale (to people). Doesn't take much brain power to figure out how hard the ammo will be to obtain.

Awesome toy though. I had the opportunity to shoot it (literally, just a couple rounds... plus he gave me one 4.6x30mm live round for my ammo collection.. thanks man! :D). My impression? Zero recoil. That is the main thing I noticed. That and the fact that it looks bad-ass!

I've shot one. Got very disappointed.

Shooting it was strange, the recoil of a .22LR but the noise of a .223.

But when I wanted to chamber the first round, I fully racked the slide and let it go on its own and the thing stopped halfway forward, not enough energy to drive the parts fully forward. The gun have been fired a lot and was dirty. It's basically the same problem you'd get with a poorly maintained AR except that there's no forward assist to help you there.

What blows my mind is that this is supposed to be a modern design made by a very serious gun manufacturer and they made the oldest mistake in the book of making a bolt with very wide, relatively tightly-fitting contact surfaces with the receiver so it gets problems as soon as someone drops a grain of dirt at the wrong place inside.

And then there's the inevitable stopping power issue of the round itself.

If you want my opinion, don't be so sad you can't have one. Cool looks is the only thing this gun has.

I think I am on the same page with SuperDave. I thought about buying one that showed up on the EE a while back. At 14,000 a pop I thought it a tad expensive. No matter that could be done.

But I like to shoot. And when I looked in to what it takes to find ammunition for it and parts availability if ever something broke and it just was not worth it. As noted before there is only one weapon on the planet that fires the cartridge and there are not many around when compared to 5.56x45 or even 5.7x28.

So yes they are available from time to time and they look bad ass but they really are in the paperweight or the rare collectible class. If you want something to actually shoot then for one fifth the price go buy yourself a Swiss Arms CQB or a 10.5" AR and have at it.

SuperDave,

I wouldn't put alot of faith in your experience with the weapon. I've seen MP7's burried in mud and sand and the fire several hundred rounds without a problem. Using an experience with one gun on one occasion is not an accurate representation of the weapon system.

I thought the main issue with them was when they were deployed in field they performed quite poorly due to the calibre itself and not the actual design.

That's a problem with doctrine, not the weapon.

That looks like the range I go to in Port Coquitlam Ghostie.

If you are referring to PCDHFC then yes it it.

Yes. If you guys see me up there, come over and say "hi". Bay 21 on Range 7, between about 1:30 and 4:30 on Saturdays, that is my usual time and place.

I don't have any MP7's, UMP's or G36's, but I do have some interesting gear once in awhile.

Ammo is not a problem.

The Shooting Edge has Ruag 4.6x30 ammo as a regular stock item. I think it's a little more expensive than the 5.7x28. But your paying for Swiss match stuff, so it's really not a bad deal in the end.

I go to the PCDHFC range with my mother mostly. She is the one that got me into guns. If I ever see you ghostie I will say hi. Its cool to see so many nice people on this forum.
