You're putting to much thought into it. There is no reason why most of the prohibited firearms are prohibited

The original AR-180 was prohibited by name for no other reason than it was "scary looking". Apparently, the NFA did an Access to Information request a few years back, and they found that the gun banners of the day had picked up the Guns Digest annual buyer's guide and circled all the guns that they didn't like the looks of. Had nothing to do with ease of conversion and everything to do with wanting to ban semi auto only versions of "scary looking" guns.

As for the differences between the 180B and the originals, the original had a stamped sheet steel receiver that used its own proprietary lower parts group (trigger group, mag catch, etc.), while the 180B was a polymer receiver that uses an AR-15 trigger group and mag release.

You're new to this, huh? - there's actually no real "reason" for the prohibition of any firearm that falls into class 12.3 - 12.5, or for any of the firearms that were outright prohibited with no grandfathering either. There's nothing that makes them any more inherently evil than any NR rifle. For example, the Franchi SPAs shotgun that is prohibited outright is a semi/pump hybrid, that isn't anywhere near as functional as, for example, a Benelli M4.

Firearms laws are created by people that generally dont like guns.
Imagine if the rules for flying aircraft were made by people afraid to fly...
So much for looking for some rhyme or reason something is or is not banned.

I saw the prototype at SHOT 2013 and spoke to the guy at the booth. He is well aware of the Canadian market (standby for all the dreary "We dont matter" comments)
