Has anyone restocked their rifle with one of these? They seem very well made with fiberglass and reinforced kevlar. Lots of style options and seem to be light weight. Good pricing on their website... but I don't know if anyone brings them into Canada.

I've done a couple and they are ok.I'm not sure they're pricing is all that good unles you buy an unfinished blank. On the bright side they have an incredible selection of styles.
Check out Wildcat composite riflestocks in Edmonton, decent quality too.

I too have used a few. For some guns they are the only option available (or one of, anyway), Ruger #1 and P14/M17 rifles come to mind. They also did Rem 788's at one time, (as did Brown Precision) and the synthetic stocks used on A Square rifles, if memory serves. They are definitely not a finished product as you get them, but with a little work they look pretty good. - dan

Why are they just OK?? Are they pretty ruff when you get them as blanks?? Do they require a lot of finishing??

I sent them a email last night, and this morning I had a response. That right there is a good start to impressing me.

I had a Richards Microfit stock ,I gave it away and bought an MPI.
Just ok might be a bit harsh ,they're stocks are strong and light and the customer service was great.Last time I talked to them.Be prepared to drill action screw holes cut notches for ejection ports and bolt handles,as well as filling any voids or pin holes you find.On the posative side they will make a lot of oddball stuff like Dakota stocks for Savages and Wby's.
Since you can get nicer products for similar money made here in Canada MPI gets knocked down to third place IMHO.

Wildcat stocks does not have moulds for my rifle. However his products look nice.

And I just received another 1 day return positive response from MPI.

MPI can make virtually any of their stocks to fit my rifle's action. Even if fitting is required I think it might be worth a try.

As mentioned, you will be doing a lot of finishing. They are strong enough, mine have lasted well. I have seen a couple that got bent from shipping, but I've seen a few rifles end up that way too, so take it for what it's worth. Would I use them again? Yes. Just be prepared to invest some time and energy. These ARE NOT drop in stocks. - dan

I believe MPI came up a while ago and a very P'd Off poster put up some pics of his MPI after sanding for a barrel channel. It had popsicle sticks the whole length of the forearm. Can someone correct me if I am wrong?
Anyway, I would look at Bansner too. What rifle are you looking to fit?

RCAN: let us know if you can get one across the border?
I've bought 4 and havent seen a popcicle stick yet.
IIRC they do pur a small piece of wood where they think the sling swivels will go.

Unfortunatly Wildcat dosent do one offs as far as I know.
I have an un inleted blank frim Robertson composites and I've heard their stocks are really nice,so nice they are'nt taking new orders.
I think MPI does make a stock for a 88 Win.

mpi

I have used MPI stocks for over 20 years and still use them on some of the harder to find action footprints. Doc has more styles and weight varieties than any other custom blank manufacturer, but they are a true custom project. I find that its a three part glass bedding process before you get to finishing and cosmetic touches. MPI is not the best choice for the guy who just wants to open the box, bolt on the stock and head out to the range. I give MPI the thumbs up for someone with a bit of experience at the stocking bench. Regards David.
