Good day all, does anyone know where a guy can find this book for sale? Brownells has shown back order for a long time, and this isn't something Indigo would stock lol. Amazon shows 1 in Stock when I checked, but listed it at $296. That can't be right.

There seems to be a corps of hopeful optimists on Amazon.

No rhyme or reason to it.

Best I can offer is to hold steady and wait.

If you cannot find a copy to buy at a reasonable price, hit the local public library, and see what they can find..

I'm in the same boat....trying to find a copy of Double Rifles on Shotgun Actions....Brownells has it backordered, amazon wants 300$ a copy....cant be that rare...

Yeah, like I said earlier, there seems to be a corps of eternally hopefuls on Amazon and a couple other sites trying to find the one sucker willing to pay too bloody much by a long shot for used books.

If the books were actually worth that, I would have cashed in all of mine long ago. Dunno what the business mode is, whether it's crack pipe based, or someone that simply doesn't actually want to sell but will, if someone is stupid enough to buy, but in either case, it pretty much amounts to being so off base that they seem not worth even contacting, as the price and reality are so far apart.

I particularly wonder, when I see new copies and lots available for say, $20, and a couple used copies starting at ten or more times that. Dunno.

I tend to haunt the used book stores, and especially the piles of books at gun shows for decent gun related books. Worked for me so far. Likely will too, until someone decides that theirs are worth what they saw on Amazon! :)

Amazon .COM or .CA ?
There is often a large difference in price between the two.
Not just the obvious exchange rate, but a large markup.
Its enough that I get books sent to a US address just south of the border.

Either. And yes, yes there is a difference, but that was not the subject of my musings.

Say, ferinstance, someone listed a 10/22 for $3000. Would you even bother to contact him with an offer, or would you consider that he is so off base that you would shrug and move on?

I am all in favor of a free economy, and folks can list their property as high as they would like, but the question in the back of my mind, is whether they actually want to sell or if there is something else going on. if something else, what?

That is what I have seen pretty much across the board in the used book market of late. Guys asking truly crack-pipe inspired, seemingly, prices, for books that are still available new for a small percentage of the prices asked for used goods.

<shrug> Dunno. Just my observations. For what some guys are asking, I will sell my copies any day of the week, and will live with a photocopy if I have to.

For the guys that find themselves in the position of wanting a book, but not being able to find a copy, try your public Library. Hit up the nice person at the inter-Library Loans desk and ask about ordering it in. It helps if you have some info in hand, like the ISBN, title and author. Typical loan period is a month. Lots of time to head down to Staples and hang around the Photocopy machines.

I have been able to lay hands on some really great, and deservedly expensive, books out of libraries all over North America, including several private Libraries belonging to various companies, this way.

From what I have seen there are a few book dealers that seem to be run by the same people. They will ask an obscene amount for a book and this drives up the average price the companies like Amazon compile. When they finally lower the price it sells almost instantly at a still exaggerated price because people now see it as a bargain.

Amazon seems like a weird place for prices, some of them totally stupid, with no sense. Ordered a router bushing, prices for the identical item, 6 bucks to 120.

Book prices on Amazon make my head spin, I look at the library of firearms related books that I have amassed over the years and think to myself, Dave retirement is possible after all. Awhile back the widow of one of my customers decided to sell off his gun books after looking at the prices listed on Amazon for similar titles, long story short she still has most of them as only the super scarce stirred up any interest. That being said I have bought a few books off the internet and my only complaint is the cost of postage. David.

take a look at this place: https: //www.scribd.com/doc/24995094/Frank-de-Haas-Mr-Single-Shot-s-Guns-Idea-Book

they've got that one plus a few other interesting titles.

This is a no bs book. Someone on yt was making one in.223 quite a few years back. He uploaded a
vid of him prooftesting his barreled action. This was not the vault lock one either. Iirc it used curved locking shoulders made with a fixture on a drill press. There was also a guy on the homegunsmith forums who made one. He had some respectable machining and engineering knowledge to pull that off. I believe he might have been an English chap.Huge amount of work. Have fun.

This gentleman has embarked on a build. He is doing it the 'hard 8' way with mostly hand tools.

I am thinking, with a creative hand built fixture and oversized locking shoulder pieces to work on, you might be able to file, grind, then hand lap the pieces together somehow without need of a faceplate setup on a lathe.

I'm one of those suckers. There was a kids book I used to read when I was little and when I had my own kids I wanted the same book. I ordered it from Amazon for $100. My kids have since destroyed it.
