I am no expert on any of the above mentioned rifles but I do read many posts on CGN and you learn after awhile who has a certain level of credibility when you go with their suggestions in the field. I hold both Caramels and Steve Janes opinions in high regard when it comes to threads like this. By the way PHD, calling the MR1 a 3" gun at best is not really an accurate comment but appears more like an opinion based on the dislike you may have for this rifle in the first place.
The MR1 will be my next purchase as my first non-restricted black followed by the Swiss Arms when the SGBA (secret guy bank account) is filled up again.
I may have been bit by the AR bug this past weekend while running some drills with a friends Daniel Defense Mk18, we'll see
While I thank you for the kinds words, and I am completely bias, I must suggest the Swiss Arms first, it's twice the rifle the MR1 is. All this being said, I may have been bit by the AR bug this past weekend while running some drills with a friends Daniel Defense Mk18, we'll see![]()
AR is great but being a shooting range only proposition, is a no-no for me, A couples of friends, family and i did spend mucho thousands on building a 100-1000 metres private range, so any restricted could not serve a purpose there... JP.
Cant argue with that... JP.There's some validity to this JP, no doubts there.
BUT
The more of us who own ARs/handguns, the better. If we could 5x the number of registered AR/handguns in Canada in the next year, then the year after - so on and so forth - and thus demonstrating the ever growing community, we'll be that much further ahead IMO.
Practicing some mag changes with my buddies Mk18, I really liked the feel of it, very quick to point. Very light weight. I always thought that being used to the rock and lock Swiss mags that I would struggle with the magwell of the AR, but it felt awesome, I think I may have to get one now. I'm thinking LMT, but I don't know much about them so have a lot of reading to do. Before this past weekend I've never really shot one before.
Sorry but I think you are competely off base with your opinion.
The SL8-4 I owned was easilly MOA with match grade ammo. The XCR's I've shot are usually around 1.5-2 MOA with decent ammo and the Mini-14 I owned which was an older ranch rifle with 1:7 twist couldn't even keep groups within 6 inches at 100 yards with any ammo I tried. Mine was 100% reliable but I sure wouldn't count on it to shoot a coyote beyond 100 yards. And considering the price of a mini and then the cost of sending it away to make it shoot you may as well just spend the money on something decent from the start. Plus mags are Ruger or Ruger and are not overly hard to find but also not easy if you don't have a well stocked retailer close by.
I have heard the Tavor isn't very accurate but I have not shot one and don't want to say anything bad unless I've experienced it myself.
For blasting coyotes for under $2000 with a .223 I would look at a used XCR or a used AR180-B if you can find one. Both use easy to find AR mags and both can shoot decently when you find the right ammo for the gun.
If you don't mind going with a bolt action both Savage and Remington (among others) make wonderful .223 bolts for around $1000 that will outperform a semi in both accuracy and price.
This is long shot but le baron had one 3 weeks ago St-Laurent, i am probably going on Saturday, will mail you if they still have it... JP.Hey, Caramel.
Seems to me that you are in the Montreal area. Any suggestions where I could pick up a new MR-1. I'm on the north shore.
Welcome... JP.Thanks Caramel. I was heading to le baron next weekend to look for a Kelty brand backpack. Good to know that they deal in Benelli.
BTW, I'm new here and really like what I find. Lots of interesting American forums out there, but it's nice to see a Canadian based site. Kudos.
