Hey guys and gals. I have never built a firearm before but I'm really thinking about building a maverick in 308. I have a budget of $1500-2000. Do you think it's possible to build it for that? Also where would I start to look for parts to complete the rifle? Will all ar10 parts fit? Do the parts have to be from mra? Sorry if this is in the wrong place, if so the mods can feel free to move it.

Suggest looking at what the CGN sponsor business can offer.... just look at the banner above and on the side.

Can help with match barrels.

most AR10 parts will fit

fun project

Thank you. Being an absolute beginner, I'm looking for an tips and help necessary to not explode myself haha.

If you have the proper tools and are fairly handy it's not terribly difficult. The only really big hurdle is needing a reaction rod or a barrel vise to properly torque the barrel nut. You will need an AR10 bolt and firing pin, an AR15 firing pin retainer, the maverick kit comes with the straight pull carrier and the parts needed to convert the bolt. Most everything else is standard AR15 or DPMS AR308 (handguard is DPMS high profile, barrel nut is DPMS thread).

Pretty much what The_Shmoo said, but to be clear, you will need the MRA reaction rod, the standard AR-10 rod won't fit. If it's your first build, the most anxious part is "did I torque the barrel correctly?". If you're a semi-handy type, it should be no problem.

I'd wager that you'd come in closer to $1500 than $1000 - depends on what parts you have laying around and how fancy you get with the stuff you buy. If you're buying parts, I'd picked up an extra set of some of the smaller things like springs, detentes, etc. ;)
