Hi all,

I am trying to work up a load for the Barnes MRX 180 GR. using HODGON H4831C. If anyone has the newest Barnes book that shows the maximium load using this powder could you please pm with the info. If you have suggestiosn regarding this powder and bullet combo plaease feel free to drop me a line or respond to this thread in the forum.

Thank you,
Sean

As the MRX would appear to be a modified TSX bullet and as there is no notice on the Barnes site about any difference in load data, I would say use TSX loads (1 to 2 grains over standard XBT). The Barnes #3 manual gives 70.0 at 2826 to 75.0 at 3028 for H4831 so 72.0 to 77.0. I personally prefer H or IMR 4350 as I get equivalent velocities and accuracy without beating my shoulder up as much.

start below normal load data, and work up slowly using a chronograph until you hit 2950-3050 fps, or encounter high pressure signs. Whatever comes first.

The new Barnes info is available to copper club members for that calibre and in almost all cases the max loads have been LOWERED by 3-4 grains. I get p!ssed every time I open a box of TSX's and read that little note they put it where you may be able to exceed barnes #3.
FWIW, H4831sc has yielded poor velocities in mine with 168 gr TSX, H1000 has been better
