MSMC ("Modern SubMachine Carbine")

Looks an awful lot like an MP7 to me. Given India's history of domestically producing HK-licensed small arms it's little surprise they engineered something similar.

I'm intrigued. This is reminiscent of how the Soviets took the 7.62x54mm cartridge and shortened it to 7.62x39 for the tanker Kalashnikov's "submachine gun". Though shortly after that became the Russian standard rifle caliber, in which case I don't see that happening with the Indian MSMC.

I must say I'm a fan of the 5.56mm. Not the best caliber, but it gets the job done. And to have a pistol cartridge in the same caliber would be great! A pistol cartridge with rifle characteristics definitely has it's advantages. Although I'm a big advocate of the 10x25mm pistol cartridge. Would love to see a SMG/subgun chambered in that. :D

With the competence of Indian firearms industry, it will be another 10 years before this thing will work!

Given the INSAS debacle, I have to agree. The only country ever to make a Kalashnikov derivative action that was not reliable. I understand they are trashing it and buying TAVORs from Israel instead.

And after 10 years they will call it a \"success\" and buy a Russian or other foreign weapon instead, just like with their Arjun tank disaster.
