Can someone point me in the direction of a good quality set of muffs that won't break the bank? already doing that with all my other equipment, need them to work though, ears are fairly important

Went through a heavy spell of Tinitus a few years back that lasted 2 months. Thought it was permanent, but I got lucky.
Highly recommend some molded earplugs AND a set of muffs.

You do not want tinitus. Almost drove me mad.
Take care.

I got a pair of Howard Leight Impact Sport off Amazon. Not bad and fairly inexpensive as far as active muffs go. I like the slim profile style ones. I'm also getting a set of Surefire ear plugs to accompany them if I happen to be at a noisy indoor range.

If I had to do it all over again, I might go for a set of Peltor Tac 6 or Sound trap. If you really want to splurge, Sordins Supremes. :p

i've been using a set of peltors for years- like as in 40 - no electronics, just a straight set of good muffs- btw- some yo-yo tried to tell me i need to upgrade a while back, but was he just fos- the cups and foams are still pliable- i got the distinct impression that he felt my equipment wasn't "as good " as his- well, tuff- i don't drive a ferrari either

check your local safety supply store - i can get peltor muffs here at the safety store for less than half what the shooting stores are asking - same muffs different names

Get a set of MSA Sordin from site sponsor SRS Tactical. Made in Sweden. A few bucks more than others but they're hands down the best muffs you'll ever buy. Also, of you get the gel seals, they're the most comfortable you'll ever own. You can wear them all day at the range and you'll actually forget that you're wearing muffs.

Peltors where it's at. they make some good stuff. The Optime III is the most effective model I've seen, I think the NRR is 34db.
I've had good luck with their electronic ear defender too.

Peltor tacticals + earplugs for indoor.

I my opinion no matter how good the muffs you can't beat the tacticals + plugs - still hear people talk but don't go deaf when someone opens up with their open class firearm :)

Second SRS tactical, I use the peltor 6s neckband model, and use them with plugs for indoor ranges. Have worn them for hours when hunting and quite comfortable. Had one develop a hiss in the speaker and 3M Canada repaired them under warranty. SRS is great to deal with and a site sponsor.

Has anyone used Caldwell Electronic Hearing Protection Low Profile muffs. I have n't tried them but I like the low profile. 23 nnr rating seems about average and about $50 I always use foamies inside my non electric Peltor muffs can't remember what model but works OK. Just have to learn lip reading.
