I bought a used Blaser F-3, and it came with a set of Muller stainless chokes. I had settled on LM for chokes with my other sporting clays guns, but when shooting over the snow the patterns made by the U2 chokes looked smaller than normal. So today, for the start of our sporting clays league, I decided to try the U1 chokes. I shot my best score ever on our local field, and even the longer range targets were breaking nicely. The U1 chokes measure in between the SK and IC Briley chokes, but the patterns appear to be tighter than IC with my other guns. This just shows that a person needs to actually pattern a choke with the chosen load, and not just trust the choke label.

Would be Interesting if 1 1/8 opens it up.

1 oz loads pattern very well, IMO this is the big advantage in a 12ga over smaller ga with same shot weights.

Old story, what's stamped on the tube means little alot of times. I've had skeet tubes that patterned closer to I/M with certain loads, I have an extended full choke that throws more open patterns than the factory Full tube in the same gun. A visit to the pattern board with the full set and the load you intend to use will tell the real story. The choke constriction only plays one part of the final pattern, different loads, different speed of load and different shot sizes can all throw vastly different patterns threw the same choke.

I know several guys who swear by Muller chokes but I've never tried them, I generally figure that I'm not a good enough shooter to blame a miss on a choke tube. I used to be the guy changing tubes on every station but these days I normally put in IC and MOD and don't change unless I need to tighten up for a really long shot or open up if the targets are really really close. Every thing in between gets the same IC and MOD.

I've switched back and forth between 1 oz and 1 1/8 oz loads and I can never tell a difference in my scores for the most part. Really long shots call for 1 1/8 oz just to increase the odds though.

I use a U1 for skeet. I generally use 7/8 oz loads and sometimes 3/4 when I feel like using a single stage press. They crush clays .Better then IC factory chokes I keep telling myself but maybe thats me justifying $200 purchase . I can say for certain that I never have any kind of build up on the choke tubes and they for sure do stay the cleanest.

I second the use of 7/8 or 3/4 oz for skeet. I do not see the need for much more. I read that some of the more serious shooters no longer use 12 gauge in the open events.

I ordered a complete set of muller tubes and like them most because of the clear choke markings and the ease of cleaning. I am not convinced that scores are any better than other after market tubes or the standard tubes that come with the guns. I had a pair of U0 tubes that I tried for skeet. A friend tried them and liked them so much that I sold them because I shoot very little skeet with a 12.
