hi i live in a area where single projectile is prohibited but multi is not i have seen a 22 shot where instead of a bullet its like a shotgun i was wondering if you can get the same thing with loading copper bbs for a bb gun into a shell and firing that i understand it will destroy my rifeling but i want to know will it work and be a good hunting gun or will it blow up in my face

Short answer is no, firing shot in a rifled barrel will cause the shot to disperse in a doughnut shape at any real distance, also I can't think of a way of using shot in a bottle neck case that won't cause castastrophic failure in the rifle. If cost is an issue you can pick up inexpensive used single shot shotguns for a little over a $100 which would make an adequate gun for your purposes. If you join the Equipment Exchange here you can view and purchase a gun here on CGN. Welcome to CGN.

Aside from whatever else may happen, know this.

There has not been more than a tiny bit of plated on copper on BB gun shot in about forever. The stuff is steel, with a very light coat of copper on it, it is usually none too round or smooth either.

Essentially, use it in a low-grade, crappy BB gun, and forget about it for anything else.

Won't work worth beans, if shot out of a rifled barrel, as it will go in more or less random direction once clear of the bore.

I'd suggest buying some .22 shot shells and try them on paper to see for yourself. Typical pattern is to get a tiny number of pellets going more or less up the middle, and a rapidly expanding with range, ring of shout leaving large areas in the middle of the pattern untouched. Somewhat better results from shooting the stuff out of a smooth bore gun, but you either hav to ream it out, or find one, which is uncommon.

On the other hand, if you DO shoot BB gun shot through your rifle, please make sure to report the results, so we can add your name to the list of folks to never bother to by from...

Best that can be said, is that it won't likely blow up in yer face.

I hunt were there is a similar restriction on Vancouver Island. The restriction has been in place for a long time. The regulation used to state something along the lines of use of a firearm firing a single projectile is prohibited. I have seen jokers come up with all kinds of ways to attempt to work around it. Hair brained things like taking a shot shell with a slug apart and then putting one buck shot pellet to whatever...They finally added shotguns with shot only and a definition of shot as well. In addition a stipulation that a minimum amount of pellets and size so there is no way (yet...) to work around it.

I'm only adding this in case you have the same situation. Hope this was helpful. Now I have a head ache LOL.

Cheers. SJ
