So I am slowly working on a project to re-barrel a Savage Mk.II action with a short Shilen 77/22 barrel. My goal is a budget tack driver 16" heavy barrel rimfire. Uses will be informal benchrest, silhouette and much practice from field positions to keep up the shooting skills for game.
All of these are not really compatible with one single stock design. I have been thinking that it may be reasonable to have a couple of stocks, both bedded to the barreled action and simply swap them when the use changes.
I'm not thinking that I would be changing the stocks a couple of times per day at the range, more like picking a stock before heading out and installing the action into it for the day.
1) Does anyone here do that now? Experiences?
2) Aside from POI shifts between the stocks, are there any other considerations or problems to overcome with this plan?
Thanks,
Mark
