On this day in 1972, 8 members of the Palestinian terrorist group Black September, entered the Munich Olympics village and took hostage nine members of the Israeli team. In the initial event and the failed rescue mission, all nine hostages were killed as well as one German police officer.
In the aftermath, the stance that most countries had towards terrorist activities drastically changed and we saw, not just the rearming of police forces, but the rise of top tier counterterrorism units to thwart future events.
