I missing something here: I'm seeing about a hundred shooters firing at 20 or so targets... or am I looking at the wrong butts? I'm assuming they're located at the bottom of the hill, or are they closer to the homes?

Oh, and do they rent rifles to Canadian tourists?

Yes, butts are further away, 300meters.
This one with some gents shooting their Stgw57's shows the targets better.
There is a backstop behind the targets, a ridge.

This was the 79th edition of this Historical Shooting and about 1.5 million cartridges shot there since the first one without accident.

Shooting in Switzerland

Switzerland takes their shooting seriously. Even Hitler did not want to attack them.

It is not uncommon for them to close a major highway, park self propelled artillery in the medians, and shoot. And many sections of their highways are reinforced to act as airfields.

Most of the male population has been trained in the Military, and many keep their rifles, equipment and ammunition at home. They can mobilize within 24 hours.

Thanks Diopter, the targets are much clearer in the second clip.

The Swiss are, IMHO, the true "gun nation". I remember back in '93, while training at Connaught Ranges for CFSAC, and looking over at a group of shooters on C range that seemed odd: they were in civilian attire but all shooting the same type of rifle. During a lull in the shooting I walked over and found out that they were all Swiss ex-pats or dual citizens qualifying with their SIG SG 550 service rifles. SWEET!!! Not supposed to admit this but there was a bit of "try my C7 while I try your SG 550" that went on that day!;)

I remember the Farquharson military shoot we(Montreal Swiss Rifle Club and PQRA) were in before 1995, with/against the prospects for Canadian Armed forces military team at St.Bruno range
Lots of fun. I clean-up on the snap shoot with the 550.

Slight correction, what we had/have were the first Semi-auto only versions of the Sig 550/Stgw 90. They were marked as 550's, same internally as the Classic Green Sig.

Needless to say, every Swiss shooter in this country detest the Liberals with a passion.

George “Farky” Farquharson
