Here I'm posting the last new thread for this very boring rainy day!

Something that I'm not familiar with... I can't remember if I was aware of this model. I didn't find any mag that suits this MG, so I think we have none.

Again, feel free to share what you know about it, this is the reason why I'm posting these pictures.

Almost had a BAR for $500, long ago. Had the money, but couldn't spend it due to just having been laid off. sniff. Been crying ever since. Was told later that $500 was high anyway. Takes a BAR mag. No substitutes.
NE is New England Small Arms. The S/N makes it a W.W. II made LMG.
Know a guy who has a BAR that was made for the civilian market in the late '20's. Friggin' thing is a work of art. The old style S&W bluing(deep rich midnight blue) on the steel, mags included, and the highest quality burly walnut stock I've ever seen.

.
There should be lots of 30-06 BAR magazines available in Canada but the legal ones will have been pinned. Being a Museum, it might be possible to import one from the United States.

This one has been overhauled at Springfield Armory, and received the carrying handle that most got after the war. It retains the WW2 style gas regulator which required a tool to adjust it.

Used to own one of them a couple of decades ago, CA unfortunately. A wonderful gun to shoot but still outclassed by the Bren.

37patt, you'll be green with envy. Guess who dauph197 so generously welcomed to the Citadelle yesterday?

No, not me, I'm maning the fort - but the wife and kids visited dauph197's museum. I bet they had a great time.... (understatement of the year!)

For the record, I am also green with envy. Kids these days, they get all the fun.

Feel sorry for all BAR men who had to lug this 100 lb steel anchor around.

Actually, at about 19.5 pounds it's not that bad - just that crappy fixed barrel. The Bren at just over 22 pounds is actually heavier.

Lou - you're right I am looking a bit Hulkish. I once had a tour of the War Museum's weapons vault and felt very privileged to be able to do that. It will be a visit the kids will always remember - lucky them!

How many mags did a BAR gunner carry though with their reduced capacity and slightly different field role? Bet that made up for the other three pounds and then some.

Standard BAR ammo belt is 6 mags + one in the rifle.

I have one as well, a Royal typewriter model. Basically the same shape but a deact.

It's a old style #### and click anyone have any idea what the selling price is these days?

This was one of the "Surprise - you've never seen this before, but fix it anyway!" weapons on our Small Arms Repair final. Based on photos I've seen, some gunners, especially in the South Pacific, would take the bipod off for mostly-offhand use, and that puts the balance BEAUTIFULLY right between your hands (our test weapons lacked bipods). Especially with the selector set to low cyclic (350rpm; this replaced the semi-auto of the '18 & A1, but if you mis-assembled the A2 correctly you could get a not-very-accurate semi back), it was quite stable from the shoulder or hip.

Regards,
Joel
