lads
have loved 25 cal for ever.
have a beauty 250 savage shooting 90gr Sierra's well
have a sweet sako R61 in 25-06 shooting 120gr hornady well
And now deep in the safe there sits a win XTR feather is 257 Roberts,
question is which bullet. I am thinking 100gr TSX, 100gr partition, or 110gr Accubond.
I guess there really is not much to choose between the 3 of them.
Anyone have a favorite 100gr bullets and powder combo in their Roberts,. thanks FS
 
I had the same rifle and used 46.0 grains of W760 under Speer 100 grain Hot-Cor SP's... I am currently using 48.0 grains of RL-19 under Nosler 115 BTH's in my Ruger M77-R MKII... this load is a little warm, so work up to it... but in testing, I went as high as 50.0 grains of RL-19 before backing off to 48.0 grains due to better accuracy.

Interesting post and info. I am looking forward to trying out my "new to me" Model 70 Win featherweight in .257 Roberts and the rifle even has me contemplating getting back into reloading again. I will likely have to buy a new press and a bunch of stuff to go with because I used my pa's old Pacific press and accessories.
 
I have some 120 Speer HC's that I have not had a chance to work with yet. But Hodgdon reloading site has a max for the 120's at 2810 fps with IMR 4831, seems like a decent speed/weight combo.
 
The 257Roberts is my favourite deer chambering by far. Bevan King built me mine about 15yrs ago in the form of a M700 long action mountain rifle.

I have used 100gr Hornady SPs for years in mine with IMR4831. Shoots very well and kills deer. That bullets gets VG reviews for this application but Hornady had de-listed it so am now working up loads with 100gr Partitons for when the Hornadys run out. Brass can be a bigger problem than bullets in the Roberts. I scrounged up a bunch of R-P brass here in Canada and in the States a couple yrs ago. The current offerings are quite expensive and harder to find, so stock up.

The Partition would be my first choice with the softer tip and better/reliable expansion.
The TSX might be a bit long compared to comparable 100s. I might be tempted to go with a lighter/shorter TSX.
The 110gr Accubonds may be a bit hard to find at least they were. They didn't shoot well in mine.

I wouldn't own a short action Roberts... the 95 Partition in a .243 is a much better short action choice. In my long action Roberts I prefer 110+ grain bullets... the 115 NBT's are just right.

That's why I picked up the ruger - unfortunately, and this may seem like heresy to you Hoyt, the 84m Kimber shoots circles around it. If you have any tips for accurizing a m77mkii send me a pm - already did a new trigger and removed the pressure point in the stock (which barely made it a 1-11/4" gun). Would like to eek a bit more out of it (more than fine for hunting as is) but the kimber consistently shoots 5/8-3/4".

Excellent input gentlemen,
I do have almost every 25cal bullet there is with the exception of Bergers.
No problem trying the 115 or 120gr Partitons, 100's of course.
and lots of 110gr accubonds too

Are you thinking the TSX bullets to be more suitable in the 25-06 cartridge?

My 700 Classic is also a long action. Shoots 115gn NBT and also Remington Cor-Loct Ultra 115gn very well using IMR 4350 seated out to approx. 2.93"
