Muskrat damaging property

Long story short I got a big muskrat problem at my cottage. Little bastard did about $1000 damage to my pontoon boat, chewed up a bunch of wires, got under the cover and tore up some of the seats

Called a friend down there who's uncle has a trappers licence but he's unavailable for a couple weeks.

So, if I see the little bastard I wanna take him out before he causes any more damage to the property.

Is a .22lr sufficient? 20 guage? .410?

I would go 12 to let them know you mean business, and to relieve stress by watching them blow up

22lr should be fine, but if it's on the move a 12gauge would be easier!

They can be as destructive as beavers, and like beavers, there may be more than one!

You could also use a live trap, or poison some peanut butter (as long as you GUARANTEE that no other animal will get to it).

But any gun will kill it. They're not much bigger than a cottontail rabbit.
