So i put a Dlask muzzle brake on my remington 700 aac and it does reduce recoil noticeably but the concussion is kind of nuts, it's like a smack in the face. I fired approx 30 rounds and had a headache for the rest of the day(doubled up on ear pro).
Are all brakes like this? can someone recommend a thread on brake that is better?

I have a shoulder injury from a rollover many years ago, I think for now i will remove the brake and fill the end of the stock with lead shot.

On the plus side my rem my is shooting great:cool:

I would think that a good brake should not direct any blast whatsoever to the shooter. My AI is my first rifle with a brake and there is no blast or concussion directed towards the shooter whatsoever... now to the sides, that another story :p

That brake is not working how a brake should. It should be annoying for everyone else but you. Even my m1a "brake" reduces recoil and doesn't bother me one bit. Guy beside me hates it though lol.

Linear brakes direct gasses and noise forward of the shooter. The drawback is that they don't make the greatest of brakes/compensators.

I use a PWS Precision Rifle Compensator. No issues with gasses etc being directed my direction.

Were you shooting into the wind? Smokeless powder fumes can cause nasty headaches.

I had this experience with a muzzle brake that was ported all the way around, it did not smack me with concussion, but I would consistently have the headache after shooting, so I attributed the brake design to my issues. I had excellent accuracy, and it was extremely effective for felt recoil and reduced so much that I could see 75% or more of my own swirl, but after a session of 20+ rounds I would always have a headache. That was on a .308, My Lapua on the other hand had a badger brake only ported to the sides and had an angle to the ports, could shoot 50+ and have no issues, same with the design on the .50 bmg, I can shoot 25 per session and have no issues at all.

I have a smith enterprise brake on my 300 win. dramatically reduced muzzle lift and recoil and noise towards the shooter isn't too bad. I can manage to hunt with it and fire the odd round without hearing protection.
