Hey all,
I need some info on muzzle brakes for a Chinese Type 56 SKS. I really like the Yugo style muzzle brake and have seen an adapter for threade muzzle brakes online. If I bought the adapter could I fit a threaded Yuog brake on my Chinese SKS? I have seen a couple other styles but I really want the Yugo style. Am I stuck with the others or could I make this work?

TIA

Adam

The adapters are held on with setscrews and that's a lot of pressure for setscrews to hold. The only thing we make that is secured with setscrews is a 12ga brake/suppressor and even that requires drilling some .040" deep divots in the barrel to lock on solidly.

We do make an installation jig and a brake for the SKS, but I don't think S&J Hardware carries them yet. Basically the installation tool makes two radius cuts in barrel (like the ones that the pins in your front sight go through) and then the brake slides on and two hardened dowel pins are tapped into the holes in the brake collar to secure it. It is a little more work than a simple setscrew part, but it is a solid installation and guaranteed not to come off. Plus, the KA-1230 brake unit works perfectly on that application since it is made specifically for the 7.62x39 round. The product details page is here:

And here is a really crappy, really old demo video of it in use ;)
