Muzzle Break Opinions Needed

Hey All

I am setting up my new Ruger Precision Rifle in 308 Win. While I was never a fan of Muzzle Breaks on Small to Medium size rifles, after firing a few hundred rounds through a phenomenal Stag Arms 3G with a very slick muzzle break, I am a true believer.

The Ruger Precision Rifle has 5/8 x 24" Threads.

So, my question is this: Where can I get a good recoil reducing muzzle break for my Ruger Precision Rifle here in Canada?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks All!

lots of places. A good start is one shot tactical and ctcsupplies. If you want the best at reducing recoil check out the precision rifle blog comparison of muzzle brakes through google.

I just purchased and installed an APA little bastard on my RPR. Very easy to mount, with no gunsmith required for timing. I don't have an optic yet, so I can't comment on it's effectiveness, but it is rated as one of the best for the 308. Bought it from Insite Arms. $ 231.00 landed with freight and taxes. Had it within 4 days after ordering.

Talk to Rick, Dustin or Sheldon at Alberta Tactical in Calgary I have had 3 of their gill brakes 2 on 300 win mags and one on my 338 lap AI with no issues putting 50 rounds+ thru

Had a APA little bastard on my 308 and didn't find it very effective.

Only brake I run with now is the Holland radial quick discharge. They've since updated the design and I'm guessing only for improvement. I have the original on a different caliber and it reduces recoil immensely.

The only other brake I'd like to try would be the JP recoil eliminator. Ugly as sin but I've heard amazing things.

The apa lb actually reduces recoil more than the holland, but the holland apparently stays on target a little better.
This guy has done a lot more scientific and comprehensive testing than either one of us.

I've narrowed it down to JP, Holland and APA..I don't think you could go wrong with either one of these????Im thinking that staying on target is more important than recoil , with a .308.

Agreed. I've never had the chance to use both on the same rifle.

I should note that I guess the one I have is actually called the "Holland's Radial Baffle Quick Discharge". It is the one with the angled ports. Not the straight ports. If I remember correctly, there were YouTube videos of it being used on a bolt action pistol.

Could be way out in left field here, but the DPMS .30 cal brake looks pretty good. I have one on my ar and way helpful for shooting fast (need to stay on target to shoot fast). $60ish at brownells or midway. They'll ship no prob for anything under $100 US. Given our dollar lately, it might be $1,000 CDN for $60 USD, but they'll still ship.

Wow. If you thought the Stag Arms 3G brake was good, you best change it out to see what is REALLY good.

I have a Lantac Dragon, so much better. I shot the gun once with the Stag brake and took it off. It went into the garbage.

For big bolt guns, they do make a 30 cal version, but I'd stick with the ones mentioned above. While I dislike ATRS's AR brake, their rifle brakes are good.

Holland - R.P.S. International (hush)

Have to agree here, the stag 3g brake was way overcompensated, for an ar. It pushed the barrel too far down. I have a little bastard on the way, but judging from pictures, the DPMS and other side-vented designed brakes look similar. The devil is in the details, I am sure that the more expensive brakes are very nice. I scored a deal on the little bastard, otherwise, I would be giving the DPMS a go. My third brake on the ar is the DPMS and it's the last brake (or brake design) I am buying for my ar.
