Hey guys
just wanted to pick your brains on best place to get a good sturdy muzzle break for my sks...
the last one I got from ...won't say....was a loose fit and pinned after shooting twice the pin broke off and it flew off....
if you don't mind posting a few pics of what your using and where you got it that would be great...
also I picked up two boxes of stripper clips from ncstar and none of them fit I had to spend some time in garage with grinder to mod them to slide in....all 20 both ends.....
the crappy thing was I already had a box of 20 from them I purchased when I got the rifle from Al Flaherty's and those too needed some lovin..
are you guys also finding this from these clips?
thanks for any info
Glenn.

just forgot to ask anyone removed the front sight and bayonet lug and replaced it with something else.....

Why would you want to "break" your muzzle ?? A broken muzzle is useless. LOL

Now, if we are talking about muzzle brakes...

I recently saw a video of a guy who takes a Mosin Nagant bayonet and turns that into a muzzle brake.

It attaches and detaches with ease. Perhaps this can be done with an SKS?

I have a tapco stock on my sks now and I'm trying to prevent myself from going out and purchasing an AR15 style plus I like to work on my rifles...
basically I'd like to remove the front sight all together and replace it with either nothing or put on a muzzle brake or something....tweaking it more modern like....
I have a red dot for it so don't really like the big front sight on it trying to google it but havn't had much luck with finding alternative front iron sights

The same thing happened for me too brother. I bought a box of NCStar crapper Strips from Flaherty's too back in the summer, I get home and not one of those clips fits into my Russian SKS. I told the guys down there the next time i was in the store but too late to return them in their 10 Day policy. I have the NCStar break as well for my SKS and i don't think i would actually shoot with it. Unless i find some different bolts for it at HD or CT. Boooo to that

You can buy a crate of 120 milsurp stripper clips that work 100% of the time for $225.

Comes with a free storage crate and 1200 free rounds of ammo ;)

problem is for me is shipping .....non of these online supplyers are local...so for me I'd have to time it perfectly so the delivery would be on my days off as I doubt they would leave crate on back of my door....
I looked at that same crate of ammo but again delivery..
....
does anyone know of a replacement cap for the ends of our sks? and if anyone has infact removed the sight and post and left it bare?

Most ammo places ship with DHL. Do the couriers in your location not have a depot to arrange pick ups? That's how it works everywhere else. I'm in a small town and the DHL driver has called me and even met me at my workplace with my delivery. If you're in a small town it's likely to not be a problem. And if you're in a big city they probably have a depot for pickup. No need to be afraid of online ammo ordering. And many of the places offer free shipping on orders past a certain dollar value.

It is possible to have your deliveries sent to an address other than your home as well. I have stuff shipped to my work address all the time. All you need to do is call your credit card company to register other addresses as shipping locations. I buy a stupid amount of items online and this is never a problem.

not sure if we have a dhl in my area will need to look into that thanks.....just north of newmarket....
price comparing I see picking up ammo from cabelas or some places like that are almost same price.....so I'll keep looking..
thanks for the info.

UPS and CanPar also have drop off storefronts if you are not home to take delivery - weirdly, the nearest UPS drop off storefront to me is actually a tree-hugging leaf-licker Vegan grocery - so I pretty much make a point of not being around when I get hunting ammo delivered. Never tell the pasty faced leaf lickers at the till what I'm picking up, just smile inwardly.

But aside from that, you can try putting up a WTB in the EE. I think the going rate for excess stripper clips from the ammo crates is somewhere around .25-.50 each, and sometimes a lot cheaper. I've seen them go for as low as .10 per at gun shows.

Poke around, and there's a good chance there will be someone nearby who'll just give you a handful. I've given over a handful here and there to friends getting started out.

The surplus one's are pretty much the only reliable way to go.

thanks
so far I have about 60 of the ncstar ones, took the time to grind them so they somewhat fit....a few of them I cut in half to make double clips since we can only have 5 rounds per mag no sence on waisting space on a stripper clip so got two clips out of one.
I'm going to test out functionability between full size and cut ones to see what I like better.
funny stripper clips hold 10 and thats ok but mags can only hold 5..weird..anyways
have any of you tried cutting the clips in half?

Stripper clips

I find that they are a fairly tight fit in the guide. I shoot my SKS in CQB where I have to re-load quickly against the clock, and found it took much fiddling to get the stripper clip into the guide, so I modified the guide.

I took a file that was just a bit smaller than the guide opening and filed it a bit bigger in ever dimension. It only took a mm or so to make it easy to drop a stripper clip in.

I leave the clips at full length so there is a nice handle to grab when I am reloading in a hurry.

Muzzle brake

To tame the brutal recoil of a 7.62x39 I suggest tucking a Maxi pad under your bra strap.

The Choate birdcage style is the most secure I've used. I bought three of them and only used one briefly. Didn't like the added length and the constant removal needed for carbon cleaning, purely aesthetic of course.

lol
I'm not concerned with recoil........dressing it up more and more......bra strap...poooo
fresh out of maxi pad's used them all up on my 10/22
KIDING....lol
the muzzle break just for looks

ZING !!!

So... if the recoil from 7.62x39 ammo is brutal, do you recommend 2 Maxi pads for 7.62x54r ???

Seriously though, I don't understand guys who complain about recoil. It goes with the territory of shooting milsurps.

This video makes some interesting suggestions. The fellow using the SKS has a fairly slick way of doing up his stripper clips for speedloading 5 rounds at a time (he shows how about 5 minutes in).

p.s. Subbing to Canadian gun channels on YouTube is a good way to show support/strength for the community.

Yes I watched this video awhile ago....did some of my stripper clips the same way and some I cut in half as a test to see which I prefer
But I'm interested in how others do it aswell...many ideas the better...
just received my two chinese bandoliers today in mail box....simple but effective...just not sure if I want 10 round clip tapped to 5 or make 5 round stripper clips...so many choices..
great info

no got them from ebay...$20 each i think just fitted my stripper clips in them and wow ...something so simple but awsome.
I tapped off the ends of my stripper clips so they are now pinned to 5 to avoid trying to load 5 rounds with the 6th sticking and fumbling and the bandolier carries two clips per pouch 9 pouches with one I used for Torkarev ammo on strippers awell
lever arms was too expensive on shipping $15 for bandoliers and almost $15 for shipping if I remember
ebay was cheaper when I had multiple tabs open with whom ever sold these.
I might pick up some more in the next few months , we'll see.
I just don't know what do do with the end of my sks, I kinda want to remove the front sight but what to replace it with that isn't so eye sore ish,
Glenn.
