Muzzle cap

Anyone tried firing a rifle with a muzzle cap on the end? I did it once a long time ago and I can't remember exactly what happened, I just remember that the cap popped off but I can't remember if the bullet went through it. I don't think it did, but I'm not sure.

they go right thru -- and blow the cap off (and make it unserviceable - but thats what its there for)

Actually I spoke to another guy on another board and he tells me he's had both happen - the bullet goes through and the bullet doesn't go through. Seems to vary according to barrel length, on shorter barrels it doesn't, on longer barrels (like the L86A2 LSW) it does.

I seem to remember I did it on my Colt LW Sporter ages ago and the cap popped off. I don't remember the bullet going through so I assume it didn't.

Might be an interesting thing to test on the range... why I have no idea...

I just use a foam ear plug, jam it in the flash supressor.

They blow apart regardless of Barrel length 10"-20"

My friend forgot to remove the muzzle cap on his AR and it just ended up getting shot off. Nothing more.
