Did some internet/forum prowling but still unsure--

I've recently acquired a 10/22 with a threaded barrel. I happen to have a spare A2 birdcage laying around. I'm wondering if switching out the protector for the A2 will give me any benefit in terms of weight on the end of the muzzle to reduce the already small flip, a disadvantage from the added weight, or if it doesn't really matter, or if it's more of a shooter-preference thing? Already aware that the birdcage won't really effect flash much. And will using the birdcage also protect the crown better than the thread protector will?

16.5" barrel, for reference.

Thanks!

Weigh both. Theoretically the heavier option will produce the greatest reduction in movement aside from the redirection of the gasses. And yes the bird cage will offer more protection as there is more material extending past the corwn. If you wanted cool factor and more weight one of the site sponsors (drawing a blank who) offers the faux sup***sors with the integrated linear compensator. I don't know much about them though.

I think you're talking about the TNA one. Might be a bit overkill for my 10/22 application though haha!

There is only one way to know and thats to shoot ur particular rifle with the same ammo and do a realistic comparison. Your gun will show you what combo produces the desired results for you. Weight on the end of a barrel will change the sine wave of oscillation as the gun is fired and either make it better or worse. In theory the bullet should exit the muzzle at the top or bottom of the curve where its temporarily still for the longest period of time. Theres a lot more to it but this is the super abreviated version.
