Just to report in on my first kill with my CVA Optima Pro Muzzle loader.
I used 245 gr. Powerbelt bullets and 150 triple seven powder.
The first shot was on with a safe shot into the bottom of the lungs and heart.
After the smoke cleared he was standing in the feild, but i needed to reload. By that time he had walked to the edge and was standing there presenting a perfect "texas heart shot" (in the arse). I wouldn't have shot but i didn't want him running onto the neighbors land because he has refused permission to us before to retrieved game, plus it was getting dark quick.
The first shot was 186 yds and the second shot was 222 yds.
Both held nice with maybe a 3 inch drop on the later.
BUT, i found the first bullet in the hide on exit side. I could probably shoot it again except the plastic skirting and tip are gone. But the bullet didn't even mushroom at all.

I like the capabilties of this gun, but i am not so sure yet about the bullets. It didn't destroy any meat and the first shot was definitely lethal, but still i want to "test" it some more.

Would be a great round for shooting them in the head, Hahahahaaa:D

Below a certain velocity , the bullet won't expand.
I suspect that at that range you are approaching that limit.

yes very true,
i am surprised how well it held though. If it can shoot like that i want to experiment with different bullets though. See if i can get something to expand at low velocity. Or try a different powder.
I do realize it is a muzzle loader and probably would have missed if new the distance before i fired, because i would have aimed high. I stepped up from a cap lock with ball and patch and until now, didn't know how far technology leaped in the black powder world.

If it can hold at that range there must be a bullet soft enough to expand even a little bit, with remaining velocity?

I personally have not witnessed much expansion at all in the use of Powerbelt bullets. I have since changed to Dead Centers in 260 grain over 120 grains of loose triple 7. I expect that the swaged lead bullet will expand more with the assistance of the hollowpoint cavity and the poly tip. We'll see in a couple weeks!

muzzleloader

I am using a Knight Disk Magnum. 3 pellets of 777 and hornady xtp/mag hollow points 45 cal sabots, shotgun primer.1st shot 213 yds.5x5 buck dropped on the spot.2nd shot big doe 208 yds.same result. the hollow points retain size very well, and expand to 1.75 times their diameter.give them a try(at the range first).Good Hunting!!
