years ago in the infancy of the issue of the C7, I was with the CF and we had these neat little muzzle caps that fit over the flash suppressor to keep dirt/twigs/snow/fairies out of the end of your barrel. They would shoot right off if you had to shoot in a hurry and they were very handy. Does the CF still issue or support their use?

I do find them from time to time for no more than 50 cents apiece. Check yer local gun show....

Even when we could hunt with our AR15's, I never used the muzzle cap that came with my SP1 that I bought for $ 600 from Lever Arms back in 1984... they were'nt restricted back then and we could hunt Columbia Blacktail deer on Vancouver Island.

Hey, that gives me an idea for a new black rifle thread !

if you're trudging through the snow on a K9 track (agency use) though, I suspect a little rust is better then packed full of snow and a subsequent blowout should it be fired. I have one marked RCL-10 or something similar and a check of the company shows they still make them (sold in min lots of 500). Just wondering if they were still issue or if some problem with them has arisen....

Yeah they still issue those... there was lots out in Wainwright this past fall/winter. You should be able to score some from your local stores rep...

If I remember correctly, I once heard my sister tell me a story about this.

Back when she did basic, they were told that if it was ever an issue, to just put a condom over the mussle, and an elastic band to keep it in place.

Thinking about it now, the only elastic any of the guys would have would be in the form of boot-bands.

Yeah but that's over time, Trudging though the field for 12 hours isn't going to cause corrosion that fast.

You be suprised, I was on a 7 hr local ex( here in halifax ), in the pouring rain and I watched rust form on my BHP and my C6, SF kit and rest of our gear...

That only took 3-4 hrs to do that with a coat of oil on the guns....
