Muzzle velocities in PCC's?

I recently bought a JR carbine in 40 S&W and I am planning on running it over a chronograph to see how the muzzle velocity compares to the published data in my reloading manuals and by ammo manufacturers. I am wondering if anybody else has done this already and if so, what were the results.

Thanks, Jim

Thanks for the link. It looks like only 100 to 200 fps increase for most loads (I only looked at 40 S&W and 9mm Luger). It also looks like there wasn't a huge gain from 12" to 18'' for most of the loads in 40. That makes sense I guess since they are intended for the most part for barrel lengths of 4" or 5'' or so. I have loaded up some rounds with 180gr bullet over Universal, which is the fastest burning powder listed for that load in my Hornady manual. I think I will try some with HS-6 as well (slower burning) and see if it makes more of a difference due to a longer burn time.

Universal is about as good as it gets for the 40 with a 180 gr bullet.

Thanks for that advice Ganderite. |I will probably stick with the universal as my normal load, if that is the case. I do plan to try a few with the HS-6 anyway though, (I already have some on the shelf) just to satisfy my curiosity on how the burn rate will affect the velocity increase. This rifle will be just a plinker for me, just something to play around and experiment with, achieving higher velocities is not a priority ( just something I was curious about).

Thanks, Jim
