My 10/22 build with Volquartsen

I guess I just don't understand taking precision parts and turning them into just another plinker... you could have saved yourself alot of coin and just bought a 10/22 VLEH or Target model to get the same performance at less than 1/4 the price... In my mind the VQ receiver, bolt, barrel and TG DESERVE a decent stock (even an inexpensive Boyd's RVT or Blaster or EVO would be an improvement) and an optic that will allow you a greater degree of precision. Don't get me wrong, I'm not "dissing" your project... just questioning the objective.

This crossed my mind too...but sometimes the answer can be as simple as "because I felt like it"..and that would be answer enough. My only question would be about the glass really. With an action/barrel like that...I'd want some feedback on what my investment got me accuracy-wise. Cool-looking gun either way though, like the range photo too.
Hey... I am in full agreement with building what you like... even if it can't be technically supported (like muzzle brakes on rimfires...
!). And the hardware on this gun is top notch... I'm just thinking that for $200-300 more (which is peanuts considering he is pushing a couple grand on the build)... he could have a really accurate shooter.We all do what we can do... and often more than we should do!
That is pretty much it.
I did the project on a fixed budget and my logic was simply to focus the budget on the best most important items first, the stock and barrel. It is easy to upgrade the stock and optics at a later time than it is for the action and barrel.
The reason for choosing the stock primarily came down to weight and experience. I know the butler creek stock to be light and it does the job quite well. in a 10/22 the stock plays very little to accuracy compared to a centrefire rifle that has recoil.
The optics. I wanted a red-dot and was initially going to pick up an EOTech however after researching and reading tons of reviews I kept running into more and more people telling me to get the TRS-25. Well, I was at the limit of my budget anyway and the TRS-25 was a fraction of the cost for a high end dot sight.
I will probably end up also buying a good scope in the future, but funds were what they were at the time. There is always room to grow.
And lastly, everyone who knows me knows that even with the simplist of purchases I don't cheap out. I wanted a simple plinker but I'm the type that isn't satisfied with purchasing a 100$ mossberg. I go all out.
I sold a custom knife and its sale funded the entire project. Hobby money stays in the hobby, that way the wife can't complain!

I went to the Volquartsen site and see receiver and trigger assembly pair for under $600, you spent almost twice that?
