So this morning I went to the range with my grandson who is 11 years old and boy did he impress me. He does really well with the CZ scout that cumtomized for him and ussually can shoot around 3/4'' to 1" groups at 50 yards using cheep bulk ammo ( I really should pick up some match grade stuff for him to try).
He has been asking me lately if he could shoot my 20 vartarg that I built on a Savage target action with a Benchmark barrel. So being a little leary as I would hate to see him end up with scope rash or something I agreed to let him try 5 rounds at the end of our shooting sesion. So I spent about 10 min with him dry firing the rifle and explaning how the rifle would recoil when he fired a live round. I asked him if he wanted to procede, of course he said yes so I told him to load round and see what he could do.
I put one in the chamber and closed the bolt and took carefull aim and touched one off like an old pro. I could see that the recoil sort of startled him and there was a bit of a flinch. So he loaded up another one and said to him keep calm you know what to expect now so try and keep your eye open and not flinch. Second shot looked good as well the remaing 3 others. I will let the target speak for itself, keep in mind he is 11 years old and sort of small for his age and first crack at centre fire rifle.
This is a pic of him shooting his CZ
And here is a pic of his target the shot that is to the right was his first shot . 5 shot group measued .435" and the 4 shot group excluding he first shot measured .201"
