My oldest boy is drawn for E/S Mule Deer in Zone 2E.

I am thinking of BlackPowder hunt.

Anyone have any info on area or accessible land?

Thinking of staying in Val Marie but not opposed to camping either?

I hunted that zone a couple years ago. It's a good zone. Most of the community pastures are closed for muzzleloader season, cattle are still on the land. So that leaves knocking on doors of ranchers and farmers. Suggest you do your scouting early and ask early too. Get an RM map in Val Marie. Most landowner concerns are about vehicles. Fires can start from catalytic converters, and flat grass feeds no cattle. Be VERY careful not to drive off any roads or graded trails and inform landowners that you hunt on foot only - including retrieving game. That will help you gain permission, and opportunities to hunt.

Tough to go early it's 9 hour drive for me...

I suggest the following: Purchase land owner map, scout, scout, scout, knock on farmers door where you spotted mule deer and ask for permission, talk to rural bus drivers, grader operators, County Constables, RCMP, Game Wardens. Scouting is key, therefore; fill-up your gas tank and make a lot of miles. BTW, don't forget your binoculars and spotting scope.;)
