I got my first cqb match next week at CFB Valcartier. Really looking forward to it.

This is my first CQB match and I have to admit that I’m a bit nervous. I’ve done over a dozen ipsc matches, but this will be my first 2 gun competition and I don’t really know what to expect other than the stage briefings we received.

Got all my gear lined up. Chest rig, drop holster, 5 AR mags and 3 pistol mags. Anything else I’m forgetting?

Anyone on here going to the match ? Maybe some of the veterans feel like sharing some tips or what nots with a cqb virgin ?

This will be my first time on a Canadian military base too. So really any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

Dump box is where we dump used brass I assume ?

No, where you dump your rifle when transitioning to handgun. Depends on your COF. Most CQB matches, you sling your rifle so you won’t need a dump box. That’s why I asked what your COF is.

Typical CQB is where your squad moves together with a buddy RO watching you but this is in B.C. Not sure how yours runs over there.

This is a Service Conditions match...no dump box, both rifle and pistol stay on your person throughout all courses of fire. Usually ranges under 50 yards...CQB Quebec runs well-managed and fun matches.

You'll be fine just following the range commands...Here's a promo video CQB Quebec put out a year or two ago..

I always changed my rifle sight zero to reflect the COF; not much point in a 100 yard zero and fussing with hold-offs if you're shooting at 50 and under....
The ones I've shot out here had a max relay time (Ex: 20 seconds to shoot 2 x 5 round rifle @ 35 from prone, start at low ready), so anything you can do to speed up your mag changes is a good thing...
Make sure your ammo/gear is working well; the distances we shot negated any accuracy benefits from reloads; factory ammo that chambers and ignites every time ruled the day. Any ammo problems screwed people for completing relays. Mags should be your best ones.
Bring a towel/roll of paper towel to clean stuff:). On rundowns you try not to step on your mags...
I dunno your match format, but our matches generally had a squad of four: Shooter, safety, and two people scoring and reloading. It keeps you busy, not like most disciplines where there is a lot of down time. Help others where you can, but make sure you're bombed up!
If you have the ability, print off the target and practice. We used Fig 11s, printing off the center portion to practice gets you used to your sight picture. If you have the COF, practice at the distances you will be shooting the match.
Make sure you shoot your target, cross-shooting does not help your score, it only helps mine:).

how do we transport gear from the parking to the range ?

between the guns, ammo, gear, chair, table, etc... this is a lot to lug..

small cart ? on my back ? back and forth ?

Most people use a tricycle type baby carriage stroller thing with mounts for a shotgun and rifle on each side. Google the images. Might be a bit late for you to get one if your match is coming up soon. Others will just lug it ( It's a pain if the range is big). Another option is a collapsible light garden wagon made of canvas or plastic material. You just drag that around the stages.

If you know the round counts, you may choose to leave some ammo in your car and re-stock at breaks. That will keep your loadout a bit lighter if you plan on lugging the gear around.

When I shoot cqb in Ontario we are usually parked within 100 meters of the range we will shoot. I bring a bag with ammo and gear and rifle and pistol in one gun case. Once on the range and kitted up you carry your gear and leave it by your target patching area when you are acting as a safety for the other shooter. As others mentioned factory ammo rules the day in case you flubbed up a resizing operation. I change my zero for a 25 yard zero and hold over when running down to the 10 yard mark.
