Just got the PAL license yesterday - obviously new to firearm ownership.

Went over and picked up a Remington 870 Express Camo
12G
3 1/2
3+1 PUMP
Turkey Barrel with Turkey and Waterfoul choke

Any input on this? Good buy? Bad Buy?

Can it be used for big game (buck...etc)

Any upgrades? Suggestions?

I like mine.. and I love this picture :)

for the money you spent, and first shotgun, it was probably a good buy. The 870 is a study shotgun, easy to disassemble and clean, and even easier to find and replace parts onto it.

Personally, first thing I did on mine was replace the pump fore-end with a soft rubber pachmayr, as I disliked the factory one over-lapping the receiver.

You'll like the range of shells you can run through it, especially with the interchangeable chokes and the 3 1/2 inch.

All in all, good buy for a first firearm, and for a suggestion, shoot it until you a very comfortable with it, clean it, shoot it some more.

and a welcome to CGN

Mossberg 535 with the three barrel combo. You get a 22" turkey, 24" rifled deer, and a 28" waterfowl barrel plus a handful of chokes.

Got mine for just over $500 at Action Sports in Ottawa.

Love it for a beginner

My first firearm was in 1973......a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge. Very good shotgun. You made a good purchase, and it should keep shooting for years.

870's are the AR's of shotguns. and AR's are the barbie dolls of guns. there are endless mods and parts available for them. they are good shooters relaible, affordable and pretty. you did good pickin.

Just be sure to disassemble it and soak all the parts in a good penetrating oil. Prevents any of the rusting issues that people ##### about with these guns. Proper care will go along way.

Nice first gun. I have a Mossberg with 3 barrels and it gets a lot of use.

You certainly could have done worse. You also could have done better. Try shooting it, upgrade what you don't like, and try other guns along the way. Optics and sights are a personal preference so if possible, try before you buy.

Common upgrades for my shotguns:
Pistol grip full stocks, Hogue buttstocks and foreends, Surefire foreends (not a good idea for a hunting rig), side saddles, mag extensions (again, not always needed for hunting rigs), new mag followers, recoil pads

Buy quality, buy once. Resist the urge to buy cheap garbage.

It was my first and did everything a sg needed to do especially put food in my freezer and on my table. My first turkey and deer were bagged with her. You'll love it just remember to keep it clean.
