I've been messing around with my handguns getting them and myself ready for remote area carry for another season of prospecting when I started thinking which ones are my favorite and why.

Without a doubt I have to go with my Glock 20 10mm which has a few extra mod's including a 5" KKM Precision barrel and a A/A 22lr conversion kit, my other favorite is my 7.5" Ruger Super Redhawk 454 Casull.

My favorite bush 10mm loads are 190gr Sierra FPJ and 200gr Hornady XTP's @ 1300fps and 1280fps respectively.

My favorite bush 454 Casull loads are 300gr Hornady XTP-Mag's @ 1625fps and 360gr WLNGC Cast Performance cast bullets @ 1520fps. I also load 240gr XTP-mag's to 1900fps but these are not a load that I carry in the bush.

Not much that I can't handle with these 2 guns/loads.

yeah nice calibre in the 10mm. To bad the grip was the size of a brick!!

I should have stated my favorite bush carry handguns because that is what I actually meant.

My all time favorite handgun is my Colt Delta Elite 10mm. :D

What is the cost of the ammo for the 10mm Glock? much more than the 9mm? I like both weapons and have to make a choice soon. I have put about 500 rounds down range from both and can not decide, now its getting down to cost......

In the 19 years that I have owned 10mm handguns I have only ever purchased 2 boxes of 50 factory ammo and I still have about 40 rounds of that first box and 8 of the other box left.

I have reloaded and shot thousands of 10mm rounds over the years. Other than the cases costing me more other costs are fairly comparable.

I would say that factory 10mm rounds are about 3 times the cost of cheap 9mm. When you can find them. I use to see them alot about 10 years ago. Not so much anymore.

Yeah, thats my fear, 10mm ammo seems to be at a premium IF you can find it. I think i will just go for the ol' 9mm G17. At least you can get ammo for that thing anywhere and for a semi-reasonable price.........

If you want a Glock and its all about saving money, and you dont have reloading gear, buy it in 9mm. If you end up paying over $30 dollars a box for 10mm you wont shoot it very often.

I never have a problem getting 10mm down here in Lethbridge at WS.

Prices range from about $10 for 9mm to about $24 for 10mm. Prices range by about $2 up and down, depending on mfg and bullet selection.

+1

Russels' has 10mm American Eagle for 21.99 and I believe Wholesale has 10mm UMC for 23.99.

Cost is only slightly more money than .357 Mag but 9mm is by far the cheapest way to go if you don't reload and shoot a tonne of ammo...

What do you want the handgun for? If it is just for practice at the range then going to the 10mm doesn't really justify anything for you.

That is if you don't want the best standard production semi-auto cartridge of all time.

A 10mm can do everything that any other semi-auto cartridge can and everything that they can't.

CC,

I love my G20 too. For Wilderness carry, I wondered about the benefit of the 200XTP. Anyway, I'm going to try loading some up soon.

this looks like a 10mm thereas instead of "2 Favorite Handguns"...

anyways I always wanted a 10mm, Kimber would be nice :)

Glock 20 has a huge grip because it was designed to hold 15 rounds, it'd be a lot smaller if it could only hold 10...

I have loaded some Blue Dot XTP 200 grs into my G20 and I got about an avg of 1100fps out of them... I have a 22lb aftermarket spring and KKM barrel, so the load is very manageable, and I feel safe with the supported barrel.

My 2 favorite handguns are in this picture someplace.
