My .264wm custom Percision/Hunting Rifle <Range Report><Now with Pics>

That factory ammo was a little more random.

Need to put a few 5 shot groups with the handloads maybe with the lighter charge and see what comes up.

Do you know your extreme spread? Have you chronoed it, they must be moving pretty good with that much powder pushing em out.

The shots you see from the factory ammo that are to the right the 3 vertical with the 2 touching just to the left are after a cleaning the barrel seems to settle in after 2-3 fouling shots.

I'm going to shoot 3rnds of each reload 66gr, 66.5gr,67gr and 67.5gr again as I feel I pulled a few shots and was flinching a bit at the end of the day. That should narrow down where I want to go with powder I will be running these over the Chrono unfortunately I didn't have my chrono with me yesterday.....

I'm very interested in the .7" 66.5gr load as I feel I pulled the last shot as the first two were touching when I let the 3rd go I was immediately pissed I pulled that shot FRACK!!!. :D

Nice rig srt, Stevens action is very affordable but no worse than custom actions for accurate shooting in my opinion and is even more safe than all of them b/c the baffle behind the locking lugs and big flange in front of the bolt handle, proper vent holes, etc, etc. The only thing I would change is the twist. 8" twist is to tight for 264 mag, like 9" twist is to tight for 7mm mag. 7mm Weatherby is using 12" twist, so is S&L for 7-61 of theirs and nobody complains about stabilisation even the heaviest of bullets. If you compare 260 Rem 8" twist / 140gr VLD at 2800fps and 264 Win mag 10" twist / 140gr VLD at 3200fps they both will spin the same: about 250 000 rpm. Shoot 100 gr varmint bullets in 264 mag in 8" twist at 3700fps and they might never reach the target!

Thanks for the complements and the Stevens action works great I installed a bolt lift kit and its as smooth as butter.

The 1-8 ROT was picked to spin a 160gr bullet if I decided to go that heavy. I will be using no lighter then 129gr SST's which are bonded and show no issues with this ROT these will be my Coyote rounds.

Very nice rifle and so glad that it is shooting the way you want.

Yes, if that third shot hadn't gone out, that would have been quite the group.

Look forward to seeing more info and groups on your testing. Odds are it will not change much but when you find the ideal 1/2 gr increment, go below and approach in 0.2gr increments. Maybe it will give a tighter grouping?????

With a case that big, and hunting bullet, I think you are close to finding your load.

I will be answering your PM shortly.

Enjoy the McGowen. I was very impressed with the quality of machining they put in their fluting.

Nice stuff.

Jerry
