We are all well versed in the asinine actions of our fed overlords, I have exported 1 shipment previously, took about 5 months. Sent shipment 2 beginning of June and just got notification that they are on the way to my FFL :D

My poor CZ 550 was in that shipment and sports a Leupold VX3 1-5 scope currently, its purpose in life was to be a standby grizz rifle for the Atlin area if lucky enough to be gutting a moose. Zero need for this caliber in its original guise in Texas, even if hunting bigger exotics.

So the query is, how light of a pill can you push out of a .416 that retains a decent BC, maybe be able to hit 2700fps to match the ‘Ought Six like They used to do with the .375 H&H? May as well slap a thermal on it and make it a hogs worst nightmare, poor thing has been stagnant long enough.

Hodgdon lists a Max load with staball 6.5 and a 350gr Sierra SP for 2691fps, but i don't see that bullet on Sierras website.

Barnes makes a 350gr ttsx, g1 bc of .444, I haven't seen a better BC on a 350gr but I haven't looked extensively.

Your putting a thermal on it and you are worried about BC? No need... just find a bullet it likes, load it to whatever level you feel is sufficient and comfortable for you and go hunting. I use my Ruger RSM Lott on whitetails and black bear... just laod it for my target and range. I have been using my .458 Win Mag Carbine alot too... 400 grains Barnes Original SSP @ 2000 FPS is super comfortable and at 3500+ FPE, all you really need here in NA. If you want a distance rifle, use a distance cartridge... for the most part, that is not required. I've killed lots of game with cast bullets out of various .45/70 rifles too.

For my .416 Rigby CZ 550 340gr CEB V15 @ ~2560 fps mv 0.78 bc. https://cuttingedgebullets.com/products/416-340gr-single-feed-mth-match-tactical-hunting

1:14 or faster twist recommended groups not too bad @ 100m from my 1:16.5 twist barrel.

Is that a kaffir lily on your table?

Is that a kaffir lily on your table?

The kids brought it , it may have been - The Wife is a lily professional assassin so it was not long for this world.

Thinking Pulsar Thermion scope so good distance abilities but yes not a long distance rig, just like to be solid to 300 yards. Barnes load data is pulled up, looks to be the most straightforward, widely available option! My one workmate does things at outrageous distances to yotes with a top end Pulsar on his 6.8 Western.

Kind of curious wutt is on the other side of the table next to the kewl-rays?

Feels good gitt’in yer luv’d ones back in yer mitts, aye?

Haha, I just found it somewhat curious that you'd have a kaffir lily in a photo with your .416 Rigby, as the .416 is originally an 'African calibre' and the kaffir lily - well the name speaks for itself ... 🤷‍♂️
