My 597 VTR sucks too!

I got mine. Cleaned it out loosened the guide rods and it works like a dream!! 30 rounder or 10 rounder doesn't matter. I love this thing!! Sorry you got a lemon :(
 
i purchased a remington 597 tvp for my son for his 10th b day. It is a great shooting gun. It is an excellent shooter although an aftermarket 30 rnder did need some breaking in. I have a ruger 10/22 that i have had for years. It is also very reliable. The tvp is a better shooter than the ruger. If the ruger came with a decent trigger from the factory i would about call them even. My 2 cents.:ar15:

This would be a warrenty issue so long as you didn't touch the trigger assembely. I sound like the sear isn't grabing the retension lip on the hammer.
