My upcoming 6BR is gonna look almost identical to yours. It is a trued Rem 700, heavy s/s barrel in a Choate stock. I am really looking forward to getting it all together. I also am using a .272 neck reamer to avoid having to turn necks.

What bullet are you using? I like the Nosler 70gr BT for its range and terminal performance.

Ya the chote is not the best but I got it cheep at an auction.

As far as the progressive twist not really any reason just thought I would give it a try. Ron Smith is about an hour from me.

I'm using Lapua brass and 105 berger VLDs mostly. I have some 107 sierra MKs to test out.
Not too many BR primers in my area so Im using federal.:(

I havnt really done much group testing yet. Been doing lots of shoot-clean.

My next outing will be more serious.

Nice rifle Sdeering.

I have a choate stock on one of my rifles as well and agree they are not very attractive, however for the cost you get a stock loaded with features and accurate to boot ( due to beding block) without having to do alot of work.

Its 6lb heft also helps tame the kick of the 300 win mag. :D

I did some testing on friday. 5 shot groups
107 MKs 28g Varget average Vel. 2895
Shot at 82 yards
Square on the target is .5"

105 VLD bergers 29g Varget ave Vel. 3014

Needless to say I am quite happy with the way things are going.
How does this velocity compare with the regular twist barrels? Mine finished at 26"

Fantastic groups. Why 82yds?

Hard to believe you are getting 3000fps from a 26" tube.

I get 2950 from my 28" barrel with 31.2gr of Varget, CCI 450 and Berger 105's Jammed .018

31.2 gr of varget eh.

Wow, I should try spicing up my loads. I am only using 29 gr right now with the exact same components.

Great groups btw, why 82 yards tho, can you do a few at 100 or 200 like normal people. ;)

Oh and I love that target you are using. I use the exact same ones all the time. Fromm 6mmbr.com right?

Are you using 19gr of Varget in a 6br with a 105 VLD or is that a typing error?

Ill edit my post

I'm using a chrony I think it is pretty accurate...... was an overcast day- good bad??

I shoot out my garage window of the work bench/little table /rest+bag. Not the best but is warm dry and my reloading stuff is right there, no driving.
I shoot into a trap made out of 1/2" plate. Basically a funnel shape that directs the bullet into a scroll type affair. Sits atop a 45 gal drum.
Currently I have it set at 82 yards. Its up against some good stuff/junk I have out back then there are trees. I will have to get it moved back to 100 yards so I can get some comparable groups. The trap is about 300ish Lbs plus I have to move some of my valuables I think power poles, tractor job.
I would love to come out to do some competitive stuff. If only it was a little closer. Could be a possibility.
I will get my trap moved back to 100 and get back with some more groups.

Stephen,

There is nothing wrong with shooting at short range, in fact it is the best way to start. If you can make a group that size at short range, you know that everything works. Trying to shoot small groups at 500M involves a great number of variables and sorting them out can be tough - especially when one of the biggest variables is the shooter.

Check out the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association website and their excellent Homestead range. They hold a number of really good shoots where your rifle would excel.

Keep up the good work!
